Been Slayin' It!
Jun. 2nd, 2011 02:25 amEven though I've been on vacation for a week, I haven't posted in all that time.
Wild.
A lot of things have fallen together for me this week. I finished the second draft of The Finster Effect. I was a little disturbed by how not-funny it is. But you know, the apocalypse might turn out to be less hilarious than we're all anticipating.
Have accepted a contract with my new publisher, JournalStone. I contributed to an anthology with them in 2010 and liked working with them very much. Apparently, they feel similarly about the draft, even though it's not perfected just yet. Expect an early 2012 release, though if I get my way, it'll be closer to summer.
Realized why the novel was not quite coming together thematically. A brilliant idea assailed me, and now I'm convinced that it will be perfect. I love that happy point of the novel where you realize what's missing and exactly where it should be. It never actually happened with Cat's Apprentice, but it's happened every other time...eventually. I guess by "ever" I mean that this is the third time it's happened, and I'm stoked.
Took a break from noveling to hang out with H and watch some stuff.
First 2 eps of BBC's Primeval. Pretty good so far. I love watching BBC shows because they clearly demonstrate just how formularic American network TV is. Plus this one has scary dinosaurs.
The Book of Eli: I was pretty bored at the halfway point. A lot of fighting and traveling. Some cool visuals, and a solid cast. Glad I finished it, as the ending was surprising and sort of cool. Overall, meh, not bad.
Italian Job (original): Hadn't seen this since I was a young kid. Pretty good, awesome ending.
Voyage of the Dawn Treader: This was pretty fun and actiony. I found much to like. Still...knowing the lion is Jesus kind of ruins it for me. And I'm sorta bummed that's the case. Recognized Greg Nicotero's work on the sea serpent. Straight outta The Mist. Not sure if I like a guys work to have so much repetition. It was apropos both times though.
Game of Thrones: Super, super badass still. All hell broke loose last week. There are plenty of people I like, rougly half of whom I predict will be dead by the end of next season. They're just jerks like that, over to the HBO.
Good interviews coming up over at ZZN including the director of Opstandelsen, and writer Scott Kenemore, and a few more. Talking to the team from Bong of the Dead, so I'll check that out once my screener gets here.
