I woke up at three thirty in the afternoon (shut up, I went to bed at 8am) only to find the power was out in the whole complex. It sort of sends me into a Twilight Zone It's a Good Life world where nothing exists outside of the little hovel where I and my neighbors live.
First, I'm getting dressed and properly groomed. When hair spray time comes, I don't even think about the fact that my bathroom is illuminated by a candle. I mean, it says right on the bottle "do not use near open flame" and when you read that--you're thinking WTF, are people fixing their hair near a candleabra or some shit? It makes no sense. And yet, there I was, about to flame-on my own noggin, even though the directions clearly explain how I might avoid lighting myself on fire. I suppose I should read the instructions on the shampoo while I'm at it.
One might argue that the power goes out to remind us about the things we fail to notice. For an hour or two, I watched leaves blowing around in the breeze instead of checking my Email. Rather than channel surf, I went for a walk and watched trees swaying with the harsh winds that probably knocked the power out in the first place. Then I played with my cats and lit lots of candles. I knocked on all my neighbors doors with emergency candles, but apparently I'm the only one who stayed home to guard the building. I'd also forgotten how many nice candles I have around. Some of them smell really great. And did I mention that there was lots of wind?
I did spend some time working on my NaNoWriMo plotlines. This will undoubtedly be the most advance plotting I've ever done for a NaNo Novel. First time I had a one sentence plot. Time two, I had a long, drawn-out collection of huge and profound ideas that I deviated greatly from and later decided needed to be cut by roughly 1/2. Maybe this will be the magical, splashy novel that makes me amillion dollars well respected novelist among my noveling peers.
