Gay Rights, and dinner.

On another topic, I've seen this in a journal or two and am copying it for the sake of solidarity. Frankly I can't imagine why anyone cares "who really beleives in gay rights on Livejournal." That's quite arbitrary IMHO.
"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines
We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on LiveJournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this.Thanks.
I must say though, that I'm not entirely comfortable with the phrase "gay rights." Before anyone freaks, I want to be clear in saying that I support equal rights for everyone, which would of course include gay people. Duh. That's kind of my point, I don't support "gay rights" as much as I support equal rights for all people. I do NOT support discrimination based on who people fall in love with. Could you straighties imagine housing or job discrimination because someone doesn't approve of who you date? It's one of the stupidest, most nonsensical things out there. I honestly don't understand how anyone can defend such a mindset.
At the same time, I suspect that terminology like "gay rights" serves more to catagorize people and seems more in line with the "special rights" banner that homophobes and bigots waive. Again, I'm not talking about the ideology, simply the phrasing. I support human rights. They apply to all humans.
I have to laugh as I type this because I've had discussions with several of you regarding the use of the word "gay" with a negative connotation as in the phrase That's so gay! So you may find it amusing that I'm posting about these kind of semantics, but you know...I'm a complicated lass. Hey! I said lass.
Tuesday afternoon (later today) is my interview with The March of Dimes. I would like very much to get this 30-35 hour a week, office management gig. So, wish me the luck!
