Okay so every Halloween season i get all excited that a new great scary movie will come out...and they almost always suck. Every last one of them is cheesy and lame and notoriously poorly researched (double adjective).

Not so for The Ring, which as you may know, is about a video tape that makes you die 7 days after you watch it. It starrs Naomi Watts, Brain Cox, and a bunch of other people you know very little about. It is based on a foreign film which was based on a book--got all that?

Without giving anything away, this movie is far better than you think its going to be. it is suspenseful, creepy, and well plotted. You may notice that the major characters look like actors you've seen in other things, which at first makes the movie seem crappier than it is. I'll tell you though, it was a good watch! I saw it at matinee prices but even for $8 it was fine. there is a lot of stuff you really won't expect, and a bunch of all-around crazy shit. Nice cinematography along with a general spooky atmosphere...and some creepy kids (they get me every time...) makes this film a must for your Halloween scare cravings. It was even worth braving the rude, thoughtless staff at our local Showcase Cinema. Do see it!!
