Locke to Kate: Sorry Lady, but you're fucked.

LOST was some kinda drama last night. I don't think Juliet is capable of telling the truth, I guess we'll find out next week. Ha HA! And Hurley tricking Sawyer was excellent. Ha again!

I'm off to what I think will be my last meeting with the life coach today. She's been really helpful in a lot of ways, and I've finally figured out a way to put together a portfolio for myself that isn't silly or dumb.

Later, I'll be calling this violin company here in town to try to get them to hire me, yet again. I interviewed with them once before, but didn't have, I think, the musical background they wanted. This time I'm going to explain how customer service skills are not something you can learn while a reasonable amount of training and study will give you knowlege of any product line. Wish me luck, it's a pretty good gig, and just down the road from where I live.

Okay, married women, let me ask you. At what point do I start using my new name? I'm taking H's name (well, hyphenating really) after the wedding. Do I start using it after the wedding? After the marriage license is signed? Whenever I want? After my DL is changed? it just seems silly to do resumes and such knowing that I'll have a different name in a few months. Do I have to change my mailing address for that?

I have these three chairs in my living room that I've thrown a sheet over so it looks (kinda) like a couch. JoJo loved to climb under the sheet and run around playing on the chairs beneath. So there's just this big bulge running around under a maroon sheet. It's pretty funny.

Fare thee well, hit-or-miss director Bob Clark. I shall watch Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things tonight to honor you and your poor son.

This is the part where once again I say "Yay! Locke is evil again!". I have to admit, I really enjoyed "Nice Saywer". As for the name thing, I think you get to use it whenever the fuck you want, except for offical documents then I think its just after the wedding license. The rest of the time, you can be whoever you want. :)

As you may know, I have no trouble adopting new names for myself on a whim. I'm changing to Wednesday Lee Webster-Friday after the wedding. I don't find that too clunky and it gets rid of my old name very well.

I can't tell at this point whether Locke is evil or not. He certainly seems prideful at this point.

Didn't change my name, so I can't help you there. Good luck with the violin company!

Thanks.

I found out today that they got a huge response from string players in the area, so I'm less hopeful than I was. But I'm not out of it just yet.

I think your name legally changes when you sign the certificate. I'm not sure what to tell you what to do about your resume. I think you could use your married name on them and it wouldn't be illegal or anything, the only time it might cause a problem is when you get hired. Officially you would have to use the name on your social security card for tax purposes. To change your name on that you need the marriage certificate, or you have to get a court order I think.

Really? A court order?
Do I assume then that most women keep their maiden name on their soc card? It sounds like changing it would be a pain in the ass.

Thanks for the info!

You only need the court order to officially change your name if it is not due to a marriage or divorce. If you are getting married, you just have to take your marriage license to the Federal Building, downtown, and they will give you a new card (they may have mailed it, I can't remember). It was really easy. I think I updated my driver's license first (Do you have a state ID? You might want to change that first).

I think if your Husband wants to take your name, it is a big pain, or if you both want to change your names.

I know a guy online who did that, took a whole new name with his wife. As I recall, it was not much of an ordeal. No matter, as we're going pretty traditional.

I guess once I change my DL (and yeah, I do have an actual drivers license--funny, no?) everything else will be pretty easy.

Changing your name for a marriage is very easy in MI. It's like they give you one for free (for your wedding). Read the Marriage License carefully because there is a place that says "Write you married name here" and that's what your legal name will be once your the license goes through. I believe it would be just as easy for a male in the same situation, as it was neutrally worded. That's all we did with Katie and with the exception of changing all the places with your new name it was very easy (Except Katie's mom still sends her mail to Katie Cook-Wilcox which is absolutely wrong).

oh yeah, but when to start changing it is an entirely different story, tat I don't have a good answer for. I imagine no one would ask so long as it wasn't legal stuff you were submitting, and if they really asked about a job and you put your married name vs what it is now, they would have no problem with that. They'd probably say "Awwwww you're practicing."

How does Hollingsworth Friday sound to you?

;-]

Great, but not as great as Hollingsworth Friday Webster.

This site was helpful to me when I was in the process of changing my name. It has some forms you can print and send to different agencies.
