You only need the court order to officially change your name if it is not due to a marriage or divorce. If you are getting married, you just have to take your marriage license to the Federal Building, downtown, and they will give you a new card (they may have mailed it, I can't remember). It was really easy. I think I updated my driver's license first (Do you have a state ID? You might want to change that first).

I think if your Husband wants to take your name, it is a big pain, or if you both want to change your names.
