Dang diddly do darn CRAP!

I'm sure you will all remember the awesome dresses I found online and posted about earlier in the week?
They were from different websites, and everyone, myself included preferred the amazing blue one.

Well, as my luck would have it, their website has vanished and not come back since the night I posted that. Fie!
So I had to begin the exhaustive search for another dress. And then...I remembered a site where I used to look longingly at their dresses even though I couldn't possibly spend over $100 for one dress for any occasion. For those who don't know, 85% of my dress array comes from Lane Bryant online, which is where pretty much all poor fat girls shop if they're too old for Torrid. But for a wedding, I can spend a bit on a dress and not feel awful.

Anywhoo...
Dress #3 Dress #3

I like this one as well, and it solidifies my desire to get married in a blue dress. Not really sure why it's so important except that blue is a good color for me and represents my awesome power of Think.

Other wedding news includes [livejournal.com profile] lirrin who is making me a circlet to wear for a bargain basement price. I haven't decided if I'm going to make a besom or buy one. I found some cool ones online that cost probably about the same as the materials to make one--like $10 for an 18 inch one.

In less fun news, our ant problem is back with a vengeance. They are little ants, centrally located in what is ironically the cleanest counter in my kitchen. It would make sense if they were all over the toaster, or maybe the cat food. But no, they want to crawl on food processor blades or clean mixer parts. Dammit! Maintenance is getting a good yelling at tomorrow and the damn bug spray guy is coming back.
It's possible that JoJo ate the bundle of hot pepper, vinegar and garlic that was keeping the ants away. He was sick for a few days and then got better later. Then the ants came back. So I have to wonder if they are connected. Or could it be connected to turning the heat on? I have no clue, except that their arrival is sudden and intense. There are a lot of fucking ants in there. Aren't they supposed to be dead? It's October, after all...

That said, please enjoy this picture of me at [livejournal.com profile] madush69 and [livejournal.com profile] purplecat_a2's wedding.
Aren't I cute?!?

Oh, settle a conflict for me:

Is the "Yellow Book" they give out the real (meaning original under a new name) phone book, or is it something else?
It has the "fingers do the walking" logo on the front, but it is not R with circle or TM.

You seem very pale in the second pic.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah...I'm somewhat ghostly anyway. Plus I think I was already high when that was taken.

[identity profile] derekfz.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
that doesn't make that picture not adorable!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww...

You so Crazzah!

white on white

[identity profile] katharinakatt.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Its the pale skin with a white shirt. I have the same problem when I wear white.

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
and the flash from the camera at about 4' away from her in a dark room. That'll make anyone look pale.

Not H.

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I can amp the skin up and re-send it later today. It's those disposable film cameras with their harsh flash.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I would have adjusted it myself had I ben ashamed of my paleness. But nobody who likes zombies as much as I do is gonna be sad about looking like death.

Oh, okey-doke.

[identity profile] thorswitch.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
That is a GORGEOUS dress! And looking at the pic of yourself you posted, it looks like it'll be a flattering colour and style for you. Add the circlet and it'll really bring up the regal effect :)

As for the Yellow Book/Yellow Pages thing, I think it's all very confused right now. I'm not even sure the original "Yellow Pages" exists as such anymore. Several years ago (like maybe 15 or more) I worked at a company that published phone books, and we worked with a... thing (never figured out if it was a publisher's association, a company itself, an advertising agency or what) called the National Yellow Pages Association (NYPSA - no, I don't know where the "S" comes from, either). We'd get order forms from our company's NYPSA department (that served as the liason to NYPSA) and that's what we put into the various local-area books we got. All of those books, though, were called Mast Phone Books, not Yellow Pages books, but we had the little fingers-do-the-walking symbol on our books, too.

So, I kind of got the feeling that the actual Yellow Pages company was really more of an advertising seller which then placed its ads in books which were then published by other companies. I think "Yellow Book" may be just one such publisher - but it HAS been a long time, and I have no idea what changes may have occurred in the meantime as to how phone books are put together.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! The more I look at the dress, the more I like it.

Yellow Pages does seem more like a collection of ads than anything else. We got a Yellow Book left on our door, but I see no reason to actually keep it.

Have you checked other midevil dress shops for the blue one? I kinda liked it better.

hugs.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
There are a few places online that will do a custom dress that will run about $400. I could still go that route, but this one is much less expensive. Kinda depends how much the rental for the hall is.

Re: hm

[identity profile] katharinakatt.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
$400!!?? Crazy. My last wedding I bought a dress from hot topic. (shrug)

Re: hm

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah...

When I was looking at traditional white dresses, the one I liked was $850. That's almost half of our budget for the entire wedding.

Re: hm

[identity profile] katharinakatt.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
My first wedding I wore white.. I bought the dress from a Thrift store for $100. We're a bit pale to be wearing white aren't we though?

Often dress rentals charge $100 for a rental of a wedding dress. Pretty reasonable I think and they have a nice selection. You have to ask around for those that rent wedding dresses. Every city is different.

I know its kind of sentamental with saving your wedding dress but... after it hangs in the closet a few years you kind of miss having the closet space.

Don't take it personal.. I'm just trying to help. :) I've learned how to have a wedding very very cheaply. lol

Re: hm

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and slutty white is so boring anyway.

Not at all, I'm glad of all the advice, even if it just helps me clarify what's not practical. Frankly, I'd be stunned if I found a rental wedding dress in my size.

Right now I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to serve water and sodas at the reception. Of course, that will largely depend on the hall.

Re: hm

[identity profile] katharinakatt.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
sodas.. ice chest. water.. well.. my mom often found specials on water bottles by the crate. Like.. a crate of them for $5.. she found soda that way too... got them on sale and saved them up. Canned soda lasts a while.

My first wedding total came up to $540, second was 800 euro but that's because of all the translation fees and crap because I'm from another country. This includes dresses, flowers, parties, rentals.. etc etc etc.

If you want to chat feel free to find me on messenger.

My sisters are pretty big and 2 of them got married this last summer.. both found rental places for dresses. Only one ended up renting though.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I'm glad to know my flist is so knowlegible about such things. I'm in some wedding comms, but all those girls are so tiny. The first time I said I needed a plus size dress, some 22 year old girl told me about a place that goes up to *gasp* size 12.

Thanks!

As much as I hate to do it, I'll probably get the reception drinks at Sam's Club (which is owned by the guy who owns WalMart--who is evil).

Re: hm

[identity profile] katharinakatt.livejournal.com 2006-10-28 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
Hey..its cheaper buying in bulk. (shrug) You can also get a regular cake and buy wedding toppers and deco at the wedding accessories store. I think I paid $2 for a precious moments couple that was SOOO cute! The cake was damn good too and was like.. $20.

Re: hm

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-28 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'm going to use a friend of a friend for the cake. We're going to have a small, pretty one for the cutting, then a large sheet cake for guests to eat. Maybe carrot cake, but I'm not sure. H doesn't like frosting, so that'll be an issue. We might end up serving pineapple upside down cake, since that's the local fave!

Re: hm

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You could get Kroger brand Sodas and water at a pretty cheap rate, then just make it self serve from icy barrels.

Re: hm

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, some kind of coolers will be in order, at my brothers graduation we filled kiddie pools with ice--one for soda and one for booze. But we're not serving booze, but I want to have a spare ice bin for people who want to BYO.

[identity profile] roane.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
Have you looked at Holy Clothing on eBay at all? They seem to have some pretty neat stuff for fairly cheap.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! I was actually trying to avoid eBay for numerous reasons, but those guys are very tempting.

Thanks!

[identity profile] diamond-j.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I like that dress even more than the other blue one.

I know how you feel about color...
I wore a linen colored wedding dress, but had a deep crimson shawl with it. The red just seemed symbolic for me.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I like this one too. It looks less like a costume and more like something I could wear on another occasion.

Yeah, as the comments above might indicate, pale colors don't do much for me.

Ants

[identity profile] jenx.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Mint oil will disrupt the scent trails they lay down, and it's nontoxic to pets and humans. It even smells good! You can dilute it with oil or alcohol.

Re: Ants

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Mint oil!!

That's got to be better than the garlic, red pepper and vinegar I've been using. My whole kitchen smells like salad...and not in a good way.

Thank you!
And please don't tell the other witches I didn't know that.

[identity profile] jenx.livejournal.com 2006-10-28 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Your secret is safe with me! BTW, Victory makes an ant spray that is diluted mint oil - I bought it because I was looking for a pesticide free spray for around the cats' dishes.

Re: Ants

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-28 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Nice...I'll have to check into that.

Thanks!

[identity profile] diachrony.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I'm really liking this blue dress too. Very pretty, and the color would totally suit you. Yay!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And I love how it costs less than $200.

Yeah, it's a good one, I'm excited.

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a nice dress.

The yellow Pages??? Is something wrong with Google?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL

A few weeks ago the power was out and we wanted Asian-American food. Without a phone book we were totally stymied.

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2006-10-28 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep take-out numbers programmed in my phone. Ya naver know when you might need to jam.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I do that too. But we've grown tired of King Shing and wanted to try something else.

[identity profile] ex-jenniepan481.livejournal.com 2006-10-28 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I love the new picture of you and I like the dress. That is crazy that the other dress website just dissapeared!

we had a fire ant problem, it was me, ant traps, raid and the vacuum and everyone else standing back!! If only cats ate ants!

I will cry when I am too old to shop at Torrid!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-28 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
LOL

I've doused my kitchen with peppermint oil, so we'll see if that helps. I just want them off my kitchen counters, I don't even care that much if they stay on the floor.

[identity profile] thehula.livejournal.com 2006-10-28 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
You are going to look SO HOT in that dress! And also I love your glasses. Is it weird that your picture makes me want to jump on you and squeeze you and hug you?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-28 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Weird?

No...it's strangely common.

[identity profile] kissdbyagnome.livejournal.com 2006-10-28 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I like this dress best! It's very pretty. I tried hard to put some color in my dress, but my big problem was finding a dress with sleeves that had color in it, so in the end I put some blue beads on my veil for color.

You've always had pretty porcelain skin...so I don't think you look bad in the photo...your hair looks nice curled.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
tee hee hee

Thanks!

I like this dress both for the color and style, and because it looks less like a costume than the other blue one.
