That's what I get for Watching Spike...

Dear Spike TV,

I was delighted to learn that you were going to to an awards program showcasing the best of horror, fantasy, and sci-fi. I was further pleased to hear that you'd be covering movies, tv, comic books, and giving out a few well deserved achievement awards. We seem to have similar tastes, you and I. The musical performances were cool, and the preview clips were fucking awesome. The various montages were well edited and fun, and the RIP segment was hilarious. While The Scream Awards were entertaining despite a very silly production designer, I have a few questions about the winners (warning, these questions will include my opinion as if it were fact):

1. Do you know what a "Scream Queen" is? I don't think you do, since that award went to Kate Beckinsale. Ew. Does she even do any screaming in those stupid White Wolf ripoff movies?

2. Am I the only one who noticed how terrible Exorcism of Emily Rose was? Spike TV, you showed real balls awarding anyone from this film in front of Linda Blair. And not the good kinda balls: the sloppy, drunk kind.

3. Why was the zombie/gift bag vingette so terribly underehearsed? I love zombies, as everyone well knows. But that was just painful to watch.

4. Why don't you know that a family is not the same as a person? As much as I love the Firefly Clan, they are a Clan and not a person. Jigsaw was robbed!!

5. How dare you even nominate Smallville? It sucks so bad I can't even watch it despite having crushes on both Clark and Lex. Shame on you.

6. Jessica Alba as best female superhero? That's just stupid.

That said, I was perfectly comfortable with BSG beating LOST for best TV show. I know...I know, but Sci-Fi has a much smaller budget and almost all unknowns in the cast (aside from Olmos, and Olmos's ass) so they get the advantage. Besides, like I keep saying, if BSG had real swearing and some boobs, it would be on HBO. And HBO has yet to make a bad series (except Arliss).
And I am stoked as hell for Grind House which promises to be the most spectacular amazing violent film of next year. And that chick who plays Six on BSG is totally starting to grow on me. She's the hottest chick named after a number since Seven of Nine!

Love, userinfowednes

Actually, I forgot to mention the BSG season opener. It was awesome, although I don't like the way the new Starbuck storyline is working out. I hope she's faking. I don't care for the newer, softer, Little Adama. But since that it clearly a makeup job, I presume he'll be less soft soon. And as usual, Gaius Baltar can kiss my ass. I'm sick of him and his lusty shenanegans fucking up the human race. I'm not even that big a fan of humans...in a way, I suppose, it's impressive that anyone's thingy could get us all into so much trouble.

We are still waiting to hear back from H's mom about the handfasting. I also need to find a dress, a venue, a musician, and probably a zillion things I'm not thinking of. I got a book on wedding planning when I got ordained, they sent me a nice little package of stuff. So I'll probably use that for starters. This is gonna be kind of a big deal, so I sort of wish I'd have given us more time to plan. But I'm sick of waiting around. Anyway, it's scheduled for October 20, 2007. It's a Saturday, and we'll have a waxing moon. Woot! So yeah, clear your calendars. I'm thinking late afternoon, early evening sort of deal. I haven't researched appropriate times, but we'll likely do it at 30 minutes past whatever hour it is.

I got totally threatened about my incessant not going to Group. I hate Group. I hate going to Group. But they said if I miss anymore Groups then they have to boot me. I mean, they're just being fair because everybody has to go. But as I may have mentioned, I hate it. But I have to go. I hate "have to." At least the added med is taking the edge off.

Lj Scrapbook is pissing me off. I haven't been able to upload a picture in two weeks. That sucks, because I've been waiting to post something from The Onion about Uwe Boll.

Kate Beckinsale as a scream queen? Please. This is a scream queen:

or this:

Well, they're my faves, anyway.

And, hey, congrats on the upcoming wedding. Best wishes and good luck and all that!

The whole wedding thing went from exciting to terrifying as soon as I looked in to the actual planning. I already have to calm the hell down.

But thanks!

I can imagine. R and I did the common law thing in Colorado since it's a common law state, so I didn't have to go through any of that. You're going to do fine, though. Deep breaths. Lots of lists. It'll be cool. : )

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it will, ultimately.

I'm just bummed my idea to get married in the U of M green screen room looks unfeasible. Would have been the best wedding video EVAR!!

[personal profile] groovesinorbit 2006-10-11 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, what were you going to have on the green screen?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
We hadn't decided, zombies, space, the set of Logan's Run...possibilities are pretty much endless.

[personal profile] groovesinorbit 2006-10-11 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Any of that would have been pretty cool. Bummer it's not looking feasible.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah...but it's not like I'm out of good ideas. I just haven't thought of them yet. ;-]

*grin* That's the spirit!

How cool, a wedding!!! For about 5 min. I was thinking you meant this October 20th. I was thinking crap, thats fast!

Ian and I got married at a Victorian Museum. Everyone was so diverted by the unique and fun surroundings that I was able to slip a ceremony in there that was pretty bland as far as religion goes. We did the candle lighting ceremony (which xtians like to do) because I love using candles in my spell work. I'm not one for wanting to stand up for long periods of time in front of friends and family and profess my love to someone, so the cremony was very very short (only about 10 min long.) The woman from the local metaphysical store married us btw... But she knew there were xtians in the mix so she was very respectful. She gave me her ceremony and I took it and rewrote it to how I wanted it.

My suggestions:

-Find a unique venue, they usually are way cheap and people love it!
-Keep things short and sweet, that way religion won't have a chance to smother things.
-Short Hor's Doerves make for a great wedding reception, and saves on money.
-Try not to stress out toooo much, easier said then done. But remember it's YOUR special day:)
-DIY everything saves so much money!

I have many fall wedding things left over, let me know if you want to borrow/use some of it:)

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the suggestions, sounds like we're very much on the same page. I'm sure we'll talk all about it when I see you next week!

[identity profile] kissdbyagnome.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
okay cool.

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I will be sorely disappointed if Starbuck has fallen for that little abomination. And I'm assuming that we are going to see some sort of super human slimming of Apollo in the next couple of episodes. And for god sakes how many times can someone betray humanity to the cylons!!! For a moment I really thought BAltar had grown some balls.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I concur on all counts.

[identity profile] sudrin.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they have done a great job on BSG of making the characters seem like they have really been thru a traumatic year. I admit I was also a little disappointed with the way the Starbuck plot is going but at the same time I am glad that the show is ultimately unrelenting and doesn't back down with a lot of character tricks or reset buttons. So better an annoying Starbuck storyline than a "She's all better in the next episode" situation. I'm fairly certainly that Starbuck will find her way back to the top. I still sort of want her to punch Kat out, even though I really like that character too.

I hope I get an invite to the wedding, I'll certainly make it a priority to be there. Unfortunately right about then I think I'll get REALLY jealous of H. ;-)

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally LOLed when I saw that Kat was the cag. Then I realized that I'm turning into a huge nerd. Yeah, everyone is looking really rough; I even had huge sympathy for Tigh and his wife. And I think they both suck, normally.

Of course you're invited. We're hoping for as many presents friends to join us as possible. ;-]
I'm most concerned with having a nice turnout so the celebration will be nice and merry.

Green Screen

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
What we didn't talk about as I was thinking more about this is that we could maybe get something from our studio to do a green screen shoot elsewhere. I have a few ideas, that I'm sure we can arrange. We'll talk later.

Woot!

okay.

[identity profile] princezna.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it best to get married on a waxing moon? If so, why? Also, what about half past the hour- is that good luck too?

I'm curious!!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Half past the hour is actually a very old hebrew tradition. And overt stereotypes aside, those Jews usually know what they's talkin' about. Jewish mystics assign characteristics to the various parts of the hour, much like the Celts and the Norse separate the day into various parts. This is where we get "the witching hour" or the "hour of the dead."

I tend to (except in the case of a time sensitive emergency) consult the moon for any ritual magick. Magick designed to aid in new ventures, or for prosperity...anything where you want to bring things to you or encourage productivity, you want to do during a waxing moon. Spells for casting things out, down, or behind you (forgetting an ex, conquering a drug problem, etc) are best done during a waning moon. A wedding would also be okay during the full moon, it's just near impossible to plan because the window is so short.

1. YOU need to take over spike tv.

2. Handfasting.. YAY!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
1. You just see if I don't!

2. Thank you!! I'm pretty excited, but it's such a foreign thing. I'm making an Amazon registry and keep forgetting that when they say "the bride" that they mean me.

I'm waiting for my friend to finish a thing for the thing I'm sending you. My part has been done for awhile, but my friend has a million paying commissions so her freebie work for friends often has to wait. But it shall arrive eventually, and there will be much rejoicing!

[identity profile] ex-jenniepan481.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
oh man, I would love love LOVE it.. that could be one of the first steps to taking over the world!

Hell yeah, they mean you..er unless H is the bride??

THINGS, mystery THINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
ACtually, Amazon makes it so either space on the registry can say Bride, Groom, or Partner. I thought that was damn cool. Maybe purely a business decision, but still...

[identity profile] ex-jenniepan481.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
that IS cool!

wait a minute...

[identity profile] parilous.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
*looks sternly at Wednes*

THIS is how you announce your wedding?? In an entry about SPIKE TV???

(or, have you talked about it before and I missed it???)

Re: wait a minute...

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-12 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I have been living with H for six years. I'm pretty sure people saw it coming...and we did decide to get married a while ago. It was just in the distant future. So it's really the announcement of the setting of a date.

Once I have the ring, there will be a pictorial spread so huge and obnoxious an LJ cut may not even hold it!! ;-]
