I'm back, in case you hadn't heard!

For posterity, and for my own amusement, I'll be posting pics of my fabulous weekend in "nature" in a day or two, once I have the pictures. N is sending them to me on disc in the mail. I can assure you though, that a good time was had by all.

Upon my return home, I had a creepy, spooky, ooky Halloween card waiting from [profile] ds1972. So thanks, punk!
Also waiting for me were several job leads from my job developer. She informs me that Quality 16 is hiring *LOL*. Yeah, I'll rush right over there to interview...
Happily, there were also some good leads. So I'll be doing that most of the day tomorrow. And I think I have a new tarot client coming over. Or should I say...a new tarot querent. Ho ho hahahaha! Now that's comedy, people. Anyway, that will be good. I only have about 4 regular clients and I'd like to have more.

I found out later that I'm finally going to see Night of the Living Dead: The Musical which I thought I hadn't heard about, but then remembered that I had. Supposedly, it has Billy West in it. I wonder if that's prolific cartoon voiceover guy Billy West; or just some impostor. We shall see. I guess N's brother is working on the show as well, in some sort of sound capacity. N has this brother ho is sort of rude and standoffish, but he's hot. Weird, that. Anyway, they are encouraging people to dress up. So, time once again to dust off the 'ol zombie costume. Haven't broken that baby out since I went to see Land of the Dead. Hopefully this musical will be slightly less ridiculous. Has anyone listened to the commentary on LotD, BTW? I haven't yet and I'm hoping it will iron out what I consider some of the rough spots in that movie. I own it and like it and all that...but I think Romero was pushing the whole "suspension of disbelief" this time around. Those zombies learned awfully quick.

Today I made H and I a nice lunch of sausages and waffles. They were the best waffles I have ever eaten in my whole life. Why? Because I used

Mix
1 cup AP flour
1 cup Whole Wheat flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder (be sure to test it)
1 tsp salt
3 tsp sugar (yes, sugar is a dry ingredient here)

Mix Separately:
3 whole eggs, beaten
1/2 stick (2 oz) melted unsalted butter
16 oz room temperature buttermilk

Mix drys, then wets, stir together just until combined. Do not use electric mixer. Rest batter on counter for five minutes (important!). Spray heated waffler liberally with cooking spray (I use the butter flavor) and cook according to instructions. Best waffles in the universe!! Fabulous!!

I also slept a lot upon my return home. Fresh air makes me damn tired. That probably means I don't get nearly enough of it. Go figure...

I really don't wee how you can blame Romero because you couldn't suspend your disbelief.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
You don't?

Have you ever seen a bad movie before?

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I never have problems suspending my disbelief unless the movie contradicts itself, prequals, or some commonly konw fact, there should be no problem.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes well, this movie does. Although I appreciate your jumping in to be contrary when you haven't even seen the film, nor the pre-existing series in question.

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually it just happened to catch my attention because you said something similar to Ryan once. You said... "It's not the director's fault that you couldn't suspend your disbelief."

I just couldn't help myself.

And I'm sure I've seen some of the pre-existing series.

Oh, I get it...

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Within this series, the director takes more risks each time. This time around, he asserted things that are not plausable within the universe he created. They are, I suppose, possible if you already think the dead might rise to eat the living (which, you know...is not entirely unreasonable ;-} ); but not very likely within the mileiu. Zombies vocalizing, for example, is considered physically impossible among zombie purists...so it's that kind of thing that bugs me.

The comment I made to Ryan had to do with his unfathomable dislike of the movie Wolf, which I love. I love how the characters are written and developed, and I love the almost campy performances of Spader and Jack. So it bothers me that Ryan doesn't like it, because it's just so good.

It always struck me from the way you speak that this time zombies did things that they didn't do before. But that is different from them doing things that you knew for a fact that zombies couldn't do before. For example in the original zombies moved slow as hell. Any idiot could out run one. But in the movie we watched Friday they ran fast. But that didn't contradict the original, it just showed an ability that they didn't do before.

And by the way regarding Friday's movie, the speed of death and rate of re-animation is internally consistent. Provided you factor in the severity of the wound.

WTF??? That doesn't even make sense. Wolf is an awesome movie!

The DotD we watched is a remake, which means they are allowed to take liberties they do not have to justify based on canon. In LotD, however, it is a continuation of the same series, so the same rules should still apply. This doesn't mean that the rules can develop or progress in a new direction, but it has to be consistent with the material already presented, and it really didn't.

I don't agree with this. I think the Russian pregnant woman lived way too long. And Andy came back way too soon. Both were bitten on the hand.

I didn't realize that And was only bitten on the hand. He is the only one that doesn't conform then.

Max Headroom (Frank) was also bitten on the hand. He died and turned within a day. The Russian girl lasted several days, though we can't speak to when the foetus would have actually died.

We don't know how log it was for Max. We don't know when he was bitten. It could have been several days. Or we don't know if he had any medical conditions that woudl have contributed to his death. Or perhaps being pregnant delays the death from zombie infection. For that matter Andy could have turned quickly because he was weak due to starvation.

You were in NATURE?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Almost. I was in a big comfy house that was very NEAR nature. So we kept going back out into the nature, then back inside to use the bathroom, sleep and play cards.

[identity profile] stranger-tales.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
You're very welcome.

[identity profile] cmdavi-70.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
I eagerly await the photos! Where exactly is "nature" in this case?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's Nate's parents vacation home in Clare. Lakefront property with a pontoon boat and a fair amount of land. Very comfy.

I want waffles now! Mmmm. Wonder where that danged waffle iron is.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL

If you can't find it, I'd be happy to iron you up some waffles. Maybe that's not exactly the verb I wanted, but I think you get the jist.

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
ha! for some reason (unlikely ironing?) that reminds me of that guy from the Cars and Pia Zadora in (the movie) Hairspray as the beatniks, with her ironing her hair.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha!

That movie is so funny.
