Sir Graves Ghastly intro
Sir Graves Ghastly intro

Who remembers when TV looked like this?

So I am compelled to mention, once again, that Sir Graves Ghastly (or Lawson Demming for you slags who have to know everybody's real name...as if The Rock is going to answer your fan mail if you call him Dwayne) is the reason I love horror. I raced home from outside every Saturday to watch him and the dancing skeletons and see the pictures fans sent it, and hear all the terrible, terrible singing. Watching Sir Graves, and hearing him wish me a happy birthday every year, was one of the greatest joys of my own childhood. He always said I had a cute name.

Come to think of it, he probably doesn't know I'm turning 35 next month. I'd better write and tell him.

The movies played on the show ranged from not so bad to horrible. Plus that was how I saw the original King Kong, The Blob, I was a Teenage Werewolf, and that one movie about the lady who turns into a snake. Still having been a bit too young to see Jaws, I thought that stuff was damn scary.

While I'm on the subject of Jaws, it has come to my attention that one or more of you have never seen this movie in it's entirety. Consider this mention an enormous WTF as well as a plea to sit down and watch it before you watch another thing. So scary...
And please, now that I've posted this I do not want 30 of you to comment and assure me that you've seen Jaws. If you've seen it, I'm obviously not referring to you.

That said, the website actually has video clips of the old shows, including some mail bag stuff. When I was in 1st grade, I sent him a huge ceramic skull which was also a bank. He opened it on the air, and for a week, I was the coolest horror fan anyone in my street had ever heard of. Man...what i wouldn't give to see that again.

Anyway, if anyone can figure out how to make these clips play (some sort of non-apple thing perhaps) and can burn them to a disc for me, I'll surely do something nice for you in return.

This was barely worth my time, as you guys suck this year.
My REAL haul better be much better than this:

OH MY GOD! Sir Graves Ghastly--I had forgotten all about him! I was young enough when he was on that even just that great, campy opening used to scare me silly, but I still wanted to watch it. If I recall correctly, WDIV had their own inferior version later of something similar in Count Scary. The videos on the site all require Real Player--I can't remember if that's Mac compatible or not--but they're so worth the viewing. I'm all nostalgic now. :) Let me know if you still can't access the clips. I'll see if I can download them or something.

I'm sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong.

Count Scary is not inferior!

Count Scary was based on Count Floyd from SCTV, and always made me laugh my arse off.

Tom Ryan used to be funny when Tom DeLisle was writing for him, and acting as his "crew of fine boys."

Maybe you don't know this, but typing in all caps indicates that you are shouting. So typing huge letters in super bold print indicates that you are jumping around like a maniac, screaming at the top of your lungs.

Rather rude, and extreme, no?
Especially when talking to someone you don't know.

I bring it up because this is the second time you've been rude to someone on my page. Please try to keep in mind that the free exchange of ideas is more difficult when people worry about being insulted or yelled at. I seem to recall that you, yourself have an aversion to being yelled at. I'm all about the free exchange of ideas around here, at least I try to be.

sorry

Yeah...I don't have real player, and have very little room on my hard drive to get new stuff. Sad.

Count Scary was definitely inferior, but he did some cool stuff. I remember once he showed Creature from the Black Lagoon and you were supposed to buy 3-D glasses from Farmer Jack and the money went to fix the train at the Detroit Zoo. When I was a kid, they drove those zoo trains like freakin' maniacs.

Eight red-orange watermelon-flavoured wafers. That's right. Now that whole deciding to add me to your friends list thing is starting to pay off.

I had a feeling you were loose with the wafers.

Ooh, old local horror tv! It sucks they don't do that anymore. Omaha's was Dr. Sanguinary, late nights on Fridays. That's where I first saw all the classics (and not-so classics), too, on a beat-up old b&w 13" tv. Fun, fun stuff.

*squee* Oh my god! I haven't seen Dr. S. in ages (24 years). This is so cool. And so sad that he's dead.

Thanks for the link! : )

I'd like tot hink I know my way around most of the vintage campy horror stuff on the internet. It was nice of them to computerize all that for me ;-}

Indeed, it was.

Wednesday:

Hi! I'm Keith, the webmaster of the Sir Graves website. First, thanks very much for the kind words here! Glad you're digging the site. :)

As for the videos, there really isn't much to have to "figure out" to get them to play. You just need RealPlayer. I link right there on the page to the FREE version. A Mac version is also available right here: http://tinyurl.com/c2cu6. Whatever one you need, it's a small program and takes just a minute or two to install and then you're ready to watch the streaming clips (and listen to the old audio recordings)! Hope that helps. E-mail me through the site if you have any problems.

Happy Haunting!

Thank you, I actually didn't realize I could use RealPlayer with a mac. I shall download it now and commence to watching.

Are you in contact with Mr. Demming? I met him at a public appearance when I was just a young kid, but no longer have the autograph I got that day. Sad.

And thank you so much for the site. It's most heartening to know I am not alone in my love of that man, and the wonderful show.
