Whew!
I got up crazy early this morning so I could take the bus to my appointment with my fetching employment counselor. It went well, they are going to give me a voucher so i can get a new outfit for job interviews. What should I get? I guess some kind of pants and a nice blouse. I could get a nice skirt, but then I'd have to get nylons and shave my legs and crap. *shudder* What kind of shoes should I get? Are flats okay? What about loafers? I have no clue what the protocol is these days. I'm trying to get a job in high end customer service or reception. My plan is to pay on my loans for a year, get out of default and then off to grad school. That's if I'm not a famous writer by then...actually, even if I am.
My internet has been off all day, until about an hour ago. I thought I was unplugging it and plugging it back in like you're supposed to. It seems, though, that I confused the airport with the router, so I was doing it wrong. I can be remarkably stupid when it comes to computers, it seems. Stupid Ryan, not living here to constantly help me...
Anyway being offline I missed a few things. Everyone thinks it's okay to spam communities with Katrina/help posts. And of course I am called unsympathetic when I suggest that anyone who gives a damn would have already found that information by now. Plus watching the news is making me so upset and emotional that i just need to limit my exposure to it. I don't mean that people shouldn't write what they want in their own journal. Obviously, they should. But when I go looking for Sopranos, Law & Order, or Calvin and Hobbes news, I'm annoyed to see it spammed with some crap about some guy who will give a dollar per click. Are we really still fooled by junk mail that promises to give anyone money for clicking links?
Plus, it seems that
rjwhite pokes the fun at those of us who prepare for zombie holocaust. Fie! Don't come asking to borrow my battery operated CB/am radio, shaky flashlights or various choppy devices when the time comes, Mr. Mock. That's all I'm saying...

I'm totally going to have to get with it because I'm going to be in an office environment.
Good luck getting a job placement tho! :)

For the most part, though, nice flats are fine, as are dress slacks for women, regardless. Jeans, t-shirts, tie-up shoes like sneakers, tank tops (unless they're being used as a shell under a blouse), sweats, shorts, and sandals are generally no-nos.
Good luck!

You know, I do notice people dressing up to go mall shopping in Ann Arbor. I've always assumed it's a showy display of wealth (as they define it). People don't go to church anymore and they have to show off somewhere...

Hey, call me tomorrow afternoon and remind me to bring you those chairs and stuff.

I believe I will have some free time on Sunday though if that works for you.

I tend to wear a nice pair of boots or mules to interviews. Both have heels, but I feel more comfortable in heels during interviews. As long as the shoes are clean and presentable, they should be fine. Just no flip flops :)
I steer clear of skirts because of my ankle tattoos. A lot of companies don't want visible tattoos, so I hide them with slacks. You have one on your arm, right? If so, then I would go for a long sleeved shirt as tattoos can be offputting to some people and that can cost you the job. It's silly, but that's how it is.
I can help you out with outfit picking or whatever, I've been on enough job interviews (and sat in on hiring others) to get an idea of what a lot of people are looking for.
Good luck!

I haven't worn flip flops since my college graduation, silly.
