Indulgence

I've got the Seasonal Affective Disorder yet again. For those of you who don't like diagnoses that were invented after 1975, I'm Fucking Depressed. I hate my day job. I never have enough time to do stuff I want. I'm too poor. And everybody I've ever met in my life has just had a baby, bought a house, quit their day-job, or some other great adult accomplishment that I will never get anywhere near. You know I'm depressed when I'm comparing myself to other people, since I know intellectually that doing so is a recipe for spiritual and emotional disaster.

First, get some dates. Take the pits out with a knife, like so:

Pair this up with chorizo (or other spicy sausage, as I used) and bacon.

Stuff dates with sausage. Caution: it's a repetitive and boring task.

Wrap with bacon. Secure with toothpick. Put on cookie sheet. I used non-stick foil, which you will want to do also. Cooked sugar mixed with pork fat is sticky.

Bake 350 degrees for 40 minutes, turning once or twice. You get this:

Drain on paper towel. Put on plate. Consume. Repeat as needed.

I assure you that they were magically delicious. Even good cold. Sweet and um...porky.
Too labor intensive and deadly to have often, but def on the menu for my next gathering. And thanks to my buddy Cre for the recipe.

Those look amazing! I might have to try 'em. Sorry the weather and everything else is bumming you out. SAD doesn't really affect me, but it's sending R up the wall. The sun's supposed to come out this weekend, but the temps aren't supposed to get out of the single digits. Joy.

Maybe vitamin D supplements would help?

You might want to get your levels checked. Mine were way low when my doctor checked them. Not sure if it'll help the SAD, but having enough D in your system is good for a lot of things.
