Still not over this damn sick!

I'm going in to work tomorrow, even if my voice is as crappy sounding as it is today. My low, gravely voice is okay, but my higher, customer voice is nowhere to be found. The Coricidin is helping me feel well enough to function, but I'm by no means up to snuff. No holiday work-party, no solstice bon-fire; I didn't even cook H a fancy meal like I'd planned. We ordered from Tio's, which cost $40 for some reason. Fie! H enjoyed his birthday gifts from me. I got him a cute pair of boxers for his cute butt, Pan's Labyrinth (2-disc SE), Battlestar Galactica Razor, a book about high tech spy gadgets (not for Kindle, real), and some new earbuds.

We sent out out holiday cookies and such today. I was quite pleased to have gotten everything finished on time. We send a big box of treats to H's mom & fam, H's dad & fam, H's grandparents, my brother, and my Aunt Barb & fam. We sometimes also send a box to [livejournal.com profile] sudrin, but happily it looks like we'll be seeing him in person this year. Yay! Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] sudrin? Sorry about the late nite text. Anyway, I'll be baking more cookies to give out on NYE, as well as a batch of my amazing peanut butter fudge.

Speaking of texting, I got a call from a lady at Credo Mobile, which is my new phone service I mentioned earlier. Last time I posted about them, one of their reps asked me to get in touch. I heard that they have people watching what's being said about them online. Since they responded to my post within 12 hours of my posting it, I must assume that they are indeed, keeping a watchful eye on the Internets. After all, my blog os only moderately popular. Anyway, I did get in touch with them, saying pretty much

Hello,

I am writing to this address after a response in my LiveJournal suggested that I contact you in regard to some difficulties we've had with our account. The account is in my husbands name: Hollingsworth Webster.

I received an ad in the mail basically telling me how evil AT&T was (admittedly, I kind of knew this) and that Credo would save me some money to boot. So, after some internet research I called Credo and spoke to a rep named Patrick. He was engaging and helpful on the phone, enthusiastically answering my questions and generally giving me some measure of confidence in your company. He offered us 30 days of free web access in order to determine whether or not I should get a web plan. Clever selling move, to be sure!
Having worked in Customer Care for much of my working life, I have an appreciation for the work that goes into dealing with a public that seldom appreciates the difficulty of CS work. I also have pretty high standards, and this guy was great. Unfortunately, we were cut off before completing our transaction, and my husband elected to place the order online on December 6th.

We ordered a small family plan with two phones, two small texting plans, and insurance for my phone only (the pink one). Since my husband doesn't take his phone out of the house, and I take mine everywhere, this seemed appropriate. The phones did not arrive until the 10th, and could not be activated until the 11th as the rep I spoke to on the 10th said that knowing our address, complete billing information, and my husbands SS# was not enough information to allow me to activate my phone. While I appreciate that this is a security measure, it is more stringent than any I have ever encountered. Perhaps this policy should be posted somewhere or included in the introductory packet?

I went online and upgraded my texting plan, and added the insurance to my phone again. I presumed since it was not listed on our account online, that my husband must have forgotten to order it. After conferring with him, it turned out that this was not the case.

The phone was finally activated, but I was not able to access the internet on it for several more days. Twice we called and were told to wait it out, that internet capabilities should be back soon. At this point, I checked out our account online and discovered that our text upgrade and phone insurance still were not showing up on our account. After learning that my new phone does not have a SIM card (something that really should have been mentioned in your description of the phone BTW), the insurance became even more important. I also learned that I can't Email any attachments to the phone (rings I made myself, graphics, etc) even though I asked Patrick about this particular phone and he said nothing to indicate that this would not be possible. I don't recall the exact wording that was used, so I'm not going to assert that he was dishonest. It does seem, at least, to be disingenuous.

The rep I spoke to most recently (I do not remember her name) showed no empathy for my frustration and no urgency with regard to fixing it. As I'm sure you know, what a customer most wants when they call with a concern is for the company to express concern that the customer is unhappy, and a desire to fix the problem in a timely way. The call itself had several long pauses where the rep did not talk at all. I presume she was new at this. She eventually acknowledged that an error had been made on your company's part and the insurance had never been added to the order. She informed me that she would add it, but that it would not take affect for a further 48 hours. When I expressed disappointment at this, she repeated the information without apology.
I went on to mention the free web service, and she told me she could provide us with free web/data for 3 months. This was nice (although I'd really rather make ringtones myself than download them from Sprint at $2.50 a pop). She assured me that the insurance would show up on my web account within 48 hours. It has not.

Overall, I would say the jury is still out for me. I've experienced some decent service, and some not. I realize that having a good experience often relies on being lucky enough to get connected to a rep who enjoys what they do and is good at it. But since each rep is just that, a representative for your company, such a thing shouldn't really be left to chance. Had I only spoke to the second rep and not Patrick, I would have concluded that your reps were apathetic and poorly trained. This would have been confirmed by the mistakes made, and the continued lack of accurate information on your website.

It is my hope that my insurance will be activated ASAP, and that I'll be able to access accurate information on your website. I further hope that when it's time to select a new phone, that the information available for it is accurate and complete.

Goodness! This had gotten much longer than I anticipated. Thanks for listening.

They called me back a few days ago, but I was waiting to call them back when I had a voice. A chick named Yvonne called back today and was totally on-the-ball and helpful. She seemed genuinely concerned about fixing my issues and basically dealt with me the way I would deal with myself, had I called myself at work (if that makes any sense). She even talked to me about various Sprint policies, how they deal with their GPS info, and why Sprint phones don't typically have SIM cards. Needless to say, she made me very happy. I settled all my issues (well, I still can't get this Bluetooth thing to work but that may very well be something on my end. I'm not sure yet.) They are also sending me a solar charger for free to make up for our sucktacular beginning with their service. Overall I was impressed by their timely response and what really did feel like a sincere desire to give good service. So yeah, thumbs up!

Because smoking is such a hot-button issue this New Year's Eve, I'm posting a poll. H and I honestly tried to think of someone we know who doesn't smoke cigarettes but still allows cig smoking in their home. Aside from us, we couldn't think of anyone. So here:

[Poll #1502027]

The NYE menu will consist of a repeat of the Nutella pastry from my birthday party, a strawberry shortcake trifle, and corn chips with spicy salsa which I will make myself. And whatever people decide to bring with them. In case you weren't aware, it starts at 8pm and ends when we're finished. Intoxicants should be consumed in moderation, as our crashing space is limited and contains rambunctious cats.

Scored a big box of 70's children's books today. If anybody wants to go through them, let me know. They are well worn and have obviously been loved by children. But looking through the box is like being in my elementary school library again, minus bullies and corduroy pants. Speaking of libraries: once when I was 10, my mom was a Girl Scout leader *irony* that all the troop kids loved. One day they asked her how old she was and for some inexplicable reason, she told them she was 22. Of course, they counted back and a rumor went all over school that my mom had me when she was 12. Eventually, the librarian asked her about it. It sucked.

Hope everyone I didn't see on FB had a wonderful Yule.
I didn't even drink my mead as I was so damn sick.

We don't smoke tobacco products and don't allow tobacco smoking in our home, but we do allow it out in our screened-in porch.

I really wish I had one of those.

When I worked at the Movies Repertory Cinema back in the mid-80s we used to run that on our trailer reels prior to any cult and/or midnight films. The audiences loved it. To this day I still respond to customers at CineHell when they spill a drink or popcorn, "Hey, spill more....it gives Ushers job and provides employment for the youth of today."

Nobody gets my (referenced) humor.

I smoked cloves when they were still available (FROWN!) and found that more people were tolerant of my clove smoke than regular cigarette smoke. In fact, one of my friends would intentionally stand right next to me if I lit up so he could smell the smoke. He'd stand next to people he didn't know, as long as they were smoking cloves.

I always smoked outside the house, which was my agreement with Brian when I moved in. Wheat's somewhat not fair, in my mind, is that Brian smokes Other Than Cigs, and does so inside. I understand why this is, but we do have a (detached) garage...

H doesn't mind 420, but smoking is a deal breaker for him.
