Writer's Block: If these walls could talk AKA Murder Pipes redux

[Error: unknown template qotd]

Chances are, the reason it's my dream home in the first place is because some kind of crazy murder took place there. (Is there a such a thing as a non-brutal murder???) Obviously, I would give the new digs every kind of spiritual sweeping within my power. But a murder would NOT keep me from buying a house or living there, even though I am terrified of my own shadow most of the time. A random killing might make me a little more nervous than a crime of passion, as in the Simpsons house hunting adventure where one of the houses has a chalk outline on the ground, and I'll be back!! written in blood on the wall. Let us not forget that the Manson murders at Roman Polanski's house were a case of mistaken identity.

If indeed there are upset spirits of the formerly alive wandering around trying to get justice for one thing or another--then pretty much every place would be haunted. Every hospital, every old folks home, every asylum--hell, especially every asylum. We'd have our asses haunted every time we found love, or happiness, or had children, or aquired wealth or did anything else happy that some ghost is judgmental and bitter about because they don't think they got their fair share of whatever the thing in question is. They'd never stop fucking with us, and we'd be basically powerless to do anything about it.

In the end, ghosts are probably the spiritual remains of people. Like people, some of them will be really nice, others will be complete dicks, and most will be average and boring as shit. There is the theory that if they are ghosts, than it's because they were too upset over something to travel to whatever comes next. That would suck, but it's no reason to haunt an innocent bystander. So I'll say to ghosts what I say to most people who take their bullshit out on others instead of doing the work. "Get over it. Move on already."

Are condos being haunted yet.

[identity profile] boblovesdot.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, murders can happen anywhere!

But seeing as my condo was made in 2007, I doubt it.

I recently came across a website stating that there are stories that Nancy Clutter's ghost haunts the In Cold Blood home. They didn't mention her parents or brother.

Every hospital, every old folks home, every asylum--hell, especially every asylum.

Who knows, but I've heard that hospitals are areas of a lot of ghostly activities. Even more creepy is the stories that funeral homes have been reported as being haunted, but the owners usually don't mention this fact for professional reasons. I once saw a segment in which a woman and her brother were interviewed. Their parents owned a funeral home and they slept in the upstairs. They told stories about 'shadow people' would pass through their bedroom at night.

When I was walking for exercise at night, I walked through a cemetery as a short cut about three or four times. I wish I could say I saw a ghost, but no. It was pretty creepy though.

Really? I wonder why her and not the others.

Haunted funeral homes are not really in keeping with the theory that ghosts are tortured spirits. Pretty much all the bad stuff that's happened to you has already happened by the time you get to the funeral home. But like you said, who the hell knows?

[identity profile] jeffpalmatier.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's what I thought. Why hang out at a funeral home? Or for that matter, why hang out at a cemetery . . . that is, if you're sentient ghost. It seems pretty depressing to hang out in those places.

My maternal grandfather's sister saw her mother's ghost in their home after the funeral had taken place. She said her mother was standing in the parlor, which also happened to be where she was laid out for viewing. This was in rural Missouri decades ago where doing so wasn't unusual, especially because there wasn't a funeral home in every town. Was it a hysterical reaction brought on by grief or did she actually see her mom's ghost?

What drives me nuts is that I've seen photos and heard stories like this by seemingly sincere people. However, when you see programs in which skeptics take on the idea of ghosts, they choose the goofiest, most obviously fake example to discredit. I don't have a problem with them not believing in ghosts, but don't use an example like some saying, "I heard a door slam one night. It must be a ghost!!"

I don't really have a stance on ghosts one way or another, though I have some friends who are very serious about the existence of ghosts. I know a few people who think any talk of a spiritual plane is utter rubbish. So who's to say?

I wonder about ghosts. I still believe my mom was in the police car with me after my dad was killed. And other wierd little things that have happened to me or other folks that I know keep me thinking.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa, I know nothing of this story.

You knew about my dad, right? After the cops showed up, I was sitting in the squad car, and I felt my mom put a blanket around my shoulders. It was a momentary thing, but as far as I'm concerned, it was real.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't, actually. I knew that he had died, but I don't know any details.

Ah, I thought you'd read about it when I posted the story a while back. Yeah, he was murdered, and I was in the apartment when it happened. I didn't see it, fortunately, but I saw the aftermath and helped put the fucker who did it in prison.

Holy shit! How the fuck did I miss that?

Would you mind linking me?

I want to live in a house where there was a gentle murder.
