Oh...right.

Why have I been thinking about having a drink all day? I don't even LIKE being drunk.

I pondered it.

Pondered.

Pondered.

I wasn't socializing, or going to the movies or a concert. I'm staying at home, playing Xbox, dicking around online, writing, playing some tunes...typical solitary weekend activities. So why did I want to drink so bad?

Ah yes...I'd forgotten.

It's my Mom's birthday.

*sigh*

That said, I've been thinking about Narcissus lately. I'm concerned that rereading my old LJ posts is going to lead to me leaping headfirst into my own literary reflection. I've only read A Stabbing for Sadie once since it came out. I've read Harry Potter 6 more often than that. But my intellectual vanity is a force to be reckoned with; and I worry that I'm getting a little too self absorbed with all my online dealings. Sometimes I'm far too pleased with my own past witticisms. I keep saying, "It's for publicity. People gotta know about my book," or that I need to "keep track of things," in case I posted something ridiculous in the middle of the night. Do you guys reread your old stuff? Am I once again worried over nothing?

And finally, Google has an Elmer Fudd language setting. It's most enjoyable and gets my recommends.

I randomly read old LJ entries once in a while. One time I went all the way back to the beginning of my journal and went forward through each entry in order to tag some, change friends-only/private settings, etc. It was overall not that fun reliving a lot of stuff (I tried not to read much of some of the entries), but some of it was enjoyable and I made myself laugh a few times with own wit and wordplay.

Of course, I've also re-read the zines I did when I was 17-18 years old and, boy, most of that is just downright embarrassing, with a couple little chuckles thrown in. I never let Sharon read them just because I think they're so dumb.

Ha! I have a VERY old poetry journal I wrote in the mid-late 1980's that I'm literally afraid to open--in fear of what kind of suicidal bullshit I'm going to find there.

I have a box sitting in the hall of all my old poetry from high school and college. For some reason I can't make myself open the box yet.

Yup.

oh man. yeah. i have a folder of "songs" or at least just set of "lyrics" i wrote from about the ages of 15-17. man. we won't even fucking go there. once in a while, i used to get the urge to dig that stuff up and see if any of it could be serviceably re-written, but it all seems to painfully bad beyond salvageability to me. way more embarrasing than the zines. by far.

I read my own stuff all the time. I KILL me. I'm damn funny. And pretty. And important. It's not my fault I like to spend time in the awesome.

If I were you, I would read all my stuff over and over again too. Because you are a brilliant writer and a clever wit and dammit, that deserves a little trip down memory lane every so often. Or even more often than that. Says I.

I may have to steal that phrase, "It's not my fault I like to spend time in the awesome." That's the most splendid thing I've heard in a while!

Damn dude! That someone as wonderful and super smart as you would hold me in such high esteem? Well, it make my heart smile. Here, I'll say it in punctuation:

I will go back and reread old lj entries. And everytime someone leaves me a comment, I have to reread the entire entry first in my email. I dunno, I guess I need to see if it still pleases me.

I often have blah throw away entries, but am quite often very pleased with myself. I'm very uppity like that.

I can see that. Your LJ is a damn fine read!

I go back and re-read occasionally. I re-read the whole thing when tagging first came online. One thing I'm really glad I do is post my setlists. Like for my Labor Day show tonight, I can go back and see what I played previously. It's handy. No harm in re-reading, I think.

I'm relieved to hear that so many people are with me on this.
