Why I don't eat meat on the bone...

People find it a peculiar quirk of mine...I eat chicken, beef, pretty much all your major meats. But I will NOT sink my teeth into an animal and tear the flesh from the bone with my teeth. I mean, ew. Mostly, I prefer meats that have been processed into ground meat, or perhaps a boneless, skinless breast. I guess I just don't like to be confronted with the reality of what I'm actually eating, even though I know intellectually what it is.

There is a scene in the movie Serial Mom that kind of illustrates my distaste for eating, particularly chicken or ribs, off the bone. But then, I found the perfect gif to illustrate my point.

And here it is:

Psst. It's from Night of the Living Dead.

For me it's the opposite. I enjoy the feeling of sinking my teeth into meat and tearing off pieces, I like to see bones and I like my steak on the rare side. I wouldn't even mind a head on my plate. :-)

I don't mind very rare meat, and I have no problem dismantling a lobster with my bare hands...but the meat on bone thing just skeeves me.

My SIL won't eat anything with bones either, not even fish. I always thought it was weird. But Cecil won't let the fork touch his teeth, which I think is even weirder. I guess everyone has a thing.

Until I was 19, the only chicken on a bone that I had ever really eaten was drumsticks. My mom always had boneless chicken breasts or chicken tenders. I used to be disgusted by eating chicken on a bone but every once in awhile I crave it.

And forget bone-in fish! That's too much work!

I am the very same way about meat on the bone. It makes me feel like a cannibal to eat it! Even fish (which is about the only meat I eat these days) bones squick me out.

Cecil won't let the fork touch his teeth

I've never heard that one...

LOL

I always filet fresh fish, H won't touch it if it has bones...

Exactly!

I'm worse than that

Not only do the bones squick me, but the texture of muscle is ookey to me--so, with the weird exception of bacon, and sometimes thinly sliced ham on a sandwich,I can only enjoy meat that's been ground beyond recognition.
