Work, zombies, books and my hair...

Went back to work today. It was actually pretty cool, because when I went in my name was marked "sick" on the schedule board. Nobody thought I was coming in, so they were super happy to see me. Sales were pretty damn slow though. I got about a half a chapter of my serial killer written between 6:30 and 9pm.

The remake of Night of the Living Dead is coming on. I'll probably stay up later than I'd planned so I can watch it. Then I'll be all freaked out and terrified and unable to sleep. Then again, maybe I'll go watch a movie in bed. A different movie I mean. I do enjoy Tony Todd though, he's great in this remake of NotLD.

Getting a much needed haircut tomorrow. Have to talk a few things over with my stylist and see what kind of new look we can come up with. I liked my last cut a lot, but didn't like it at all once it started to grow out. I can't be paying for a haircut every 6 weeks like some people do. I need to be able to go at least 2 and a half to 3 months without looking too shaggy. I do have to look somewhat professional for work, after all.

Does anybody know if the Ann Arbor libraries, or most libraries in general have a section for local authors? I'm trying to determine how much exposure I would get from donating copies of my books to a couple of public libraries. I just don't think it would do me any good if it's just shoved in the F section of fiction. I only have so many books to do marketing things with and need to use them wisely.

I might as well mention, the next time somebody tells me how bad it is that Michael Phelps smokes pot because OH Noes He Is a ROLE MODDDELLLL!!1!! I'm going to bop them one in the schnoz. If your kid didn't ever want to smoke pot, but now wants to because of Michael Phelps, your kid is a moron. Sorry.

Someone was all shocked and shit, and I said, Well, he did train in Ann Arbor. To me it makes him more accessible and human. I'm like, now I wanna hang with him.

Really?
Then what's with all the Obama style pics?

To me, Phelps is a perfect example that you can be a pot smoker and still achieve amazing things, and I hope this shakes up the myth about lazy slacker potheads a little bit. He'd be a role model to me. ; )

Yeah, and I thought Rob Halford coming out would change a lot of dumb jock rednacks' opinions about gay people. I think as a whole, people would rather judge one person than examine their whole mindset on something.

Which is too bad, really.

You got that right.

I just wish he wouldn't bloody apologize for it. We need more celebrities who are willing to stand by their decisions and say "Yeah, I smoke weed. Clearly it hasn't affected my ability to fly through water."

Honestly, this kowtowing and apologizing makes me more grumpy than his having jackass friends that would take pictures of him doing bong hits.

I must agree. When you act like it's a dirty little secret, it gives people tacit permission to judge you for it.

Apparently there's a thing called "Michigan Notable Books", and there's a way to submit books as "notable". Here's the link: http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17447_39583-92127--,00.html

As far as having a local author section, it varies by library to library. I'd think calling and asking to speak with whomever's in charge of collection development or outreach would be your best bet. Now I'm curious about this topic myself!

Nice. Thanks for the link.

I really need to get off my ass and start contacting people.

I'd start an ad campaign for him:

'It's not steroids.'

He's only going to have to return those gold medals if they go back over his matches and find a bag of Funyuns taped to each side of the pool.

I don't see why he should have to give back anything. it's not like it's a performance enhancing drug. That's only for writers and artists...maybe musicians. ;-]

I happen to be at the Mallets Creek branch of the A2 library, and so I took a walk around, and saw no special local author section.

You might actually send a letter to acquisitions letting you know that you are a local author, and how to buy the books and see if they bite.

That's a good idea. thanks!!

The fact that he can smoke a bong AND win seven million gold medals makes him MORE of a hero....

Totally.
