He prefers O Negative...

Well, I must confess that eight episodes into Season One, True Blood has grown on me.
I'd been meaning to sit down and watch it to see if I could get past some lazy writing and some overtly formulaic characters. Turns out, I did. The show is actually quite compelling, with a hot lead vampire and the little girl from The Piano all grown up and looking adorable. I like the different kinds of conflict they set up, and the eps tend to have cliff hangers at the end. Sopranos didn't really do that.

Despite the fact that both Tara and LaFayette are terribly trite characters, they end up serving to advance the plot quite a bit. The Tara/Sam thing is a little weird and forced, but I want to see where they go with it.

Later this week, I'll likely watch the last four eps of the season. I'm sure after that it will be a year or two before we get a new season. My biggest complaint about HBO shows is that they always seem to take a year or more between seasons when they're only doing 12 or 13 episodes. In the end though, I'd rather wait and get a quality product.

I just saw the title "He prefers O Negative....", and I thought, "Well, I won't give any of mine up without a fight...or fair monetary compensation"

She was Rogue in the X-men movies too, and was very good in Finding Forrester.

I've finished the season and now i'm on to the books. So far they are following the show to a T. I agree with your opinion on the characters. Although I do love LaFayette. and most times i want to smack Sookie.

The cliff hangers are great... and the last episode of the season is really good (i thought).

I'm four eps away from finishing the season.
I haven't wanted to smack Sookie yet, though I'd like to give Tara's mama a few slaps.

Yeah, I wasn't too fond of the books in that series, but I hear the show is quite good.

I'll likely check out the books soon.

Yeah, True Blood's quite a satisfying show. The opening credits made me think it would be something a little more bizarre (sleaze + poverty + religion) but it's still good fun.

Tara and LaFayette gained dimension, I thought... but I can't say the same for Sookie. And Ms. Paquin was, I'm a little embarrassed to say, quite a draw for me to the show.

My favorite vampire shows up in episode 12.

I'm going to record the rest of the season today.

I look forward to meeting your favorite vampire.
