Reviewers Schmeviewars...

Last night H and I watched The Number 23, which I'd heard was terrible. I don't know who's been telling me these things, but this movie was quite good. Carrey is wonderful in it, gritty and utterly believable. There are plenty of sex and murder scenes respectively. And Rhona Mitra appears briefly as a total bitch. Virgina Madsen is great as always, but pales in comparison to Jim Carrey slowly going insane for our amusement. So see this movie if you haven't, and be sure to let me know what you think.

Group is tonight, and I totally have to go because I will likely miss the next week or two. H's sister Honore is coming to stay on Friday, which is about three days earlier than I thought she was coming. I have to work both Friday and Saturday this week, as does H. So I'm not sure how entertaining we're going to be while we're not here. Luckily, she has a laptop and will almost certainly busy herself playing WoW. WoW players are pretty good house guests because they mainly keep to themselves. I think I'll rent us up some movies for the visit. I'll bet she hasn't seen Knocked Up, and nor have I. So that'll be a good one.

I ordered a full out gallon of Nature's Miracle in a vain attempt to rid my carpet of cat urine. There is this one spot by the litterbox that they just kept peeing on. I cleaned it up a few times, but then got sick of it and now it's kinda out of hand. So I'll be tackling that some time before I go back to work on Friday. Only two more days of work before I get two whole weeks off for the wedding. I think I'll be due for some serious post wedding let down after all this antici...pation.

Also, what the hell is Facebook and why the hell should I care?
And it better be a better use of my time than freaking MySpace.

I'm dealing with the same crap with one of my cats.

Heres what I do and it works [mostly].
-Wash the area very well w/ soap and water, let dry
-same thing with the nature's miracle, let dry
-Spray {daily}, cat repellent over the offending spot

if all else fails, but down some tinfoil (I just bought a square of scrap at the dollar store and wrapped this in tinfoil, put it over the spot, because they hate to step on metal.

There's also special "smell real pretty!" litters, I hear, but I haven't ordered any yet.

Good look. The peeing-not-in-the-litter-box thing is a hard habit to break.

tin foil eh? That sounds like a smashing idea. I believe I will try that, at least while the relatives are visiting.

Muchas Gracias!

Facebook has a lot less blinky sparkly shit than Myspace does, less ads, and is generally awesome, though I *did* like it more before they opened it up to high school students, and then the general public. It used to be a college-kid-only thing.

I rather enjoyed The Number 23 as well, and am surprised when I hear someone saying they thought it was terrible.
Knocked Up was hilarious!!! Definitely get the unrated version, and watch the additional features, specifically the 'auditions' for the character Ben Stone.

Nature's Miracle is a handy thing. I use it a lot. Is everybody acting fine other than tinkling just outside the box? Sometimes that's a territorial thing. Sometimes they're trying to tell you something healthwise.

Of course, a lot of times they're just being obnoxious. ; )

[identity profile] lickingtoad.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked 'The Number 23' a lot better than I liked 'Secret Garden.' Nothing in that short story was so atrocious as to be unbearable to the modern movie-goer, and they still shuffled-slash-mangled all the plot points for no reason.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
But basically it's like MySpace, right? Blogs and pics and music and stuff?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Will do!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
They are fine, eating well and wet of nose. ;-] Plus they are really active. I think they just enjoy giving me a hard time and/or letting me know who's boss.

Hint: it's not H and it's not me.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. While secret GArden had some fun performances, it was in no way as dark and creepy as 23. I don't really get how come people hated it so much.

I wouldn't use soap before using Nature's Miracle, as the soap can deactivate the enzymes in the Nature's Miracle.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes sense. I can't imagine I would let it dry all the way, I'm kind of in a hurry since I put off taking care of this for far too long.

Kitties giving their owners servants a hard time? Never. ; )

I was wondering. You know, with the wedding coming up, the stress level. but I didn't want to say anything. ; )

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Meh, I'm not really that stressed. After watching the Bridezillas on TV, I'm downright calm.

Excellent.

I still think 'Eternal Sunshine' was Jim Carrey's 'One Hour Photo,' and not this. If Carrey wants to zazz me, he's conna have to pull a '12 Monkeys.'

OK, I'm out of names-as-reference. Uh ... 'Duck Soup?'

I got nothin'.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can totally agree with that. I just think Carrey has a lot more in him than that comedy bullshit he does. Plus he's pretty sexy when he's playing it straight.

No music, more emphasis on silly groups (e.g., "I will go out of my way to step on a particularly crunchy leaf.") and applications (connections to Last.FM, zombie/vampire/werewolf "bite someone!" games, etc.). You can upload blogs from elsewhere, LJ for example (only the public ones). MySpace actually took the "[username] is..." thing from Facebook. You can look for events in your social network (college or region, usually), such as concerts and whatnot.

And less ads. And less blinky shit. Generally better-run, IMHO.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I see. Maybe I'll check it out.

[identity profile] lostsatellite.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't used Facebook to it's full capabilities yet, but I find it to be kind of fun...it's definitely more streamlined and way less wonky than MySpace, and some of the applications are pretty neat...I also have found it fun to have people (like cousins and professors) as my friends that I wouldn't dream of subjecting to the personal stuff I reveal in livejournal posts or even MySpace bulletins...

let me know when you join and I will add you...and promptly try to turn you into a zombie, vampire, and/or werewolf...

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
LOL

If I join, I'll be sure to post about it.

Facebook seems to appeal to an older and/or more mature demographic than Myspace. However, as far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to encourage much real writing in the way that most blogging sites do. One can "poke" one of their friends or "write on their wall," but there doesn't seem to be a feature for posting on a regular basis or much to encourage users to make their Facebook site very interesting. Then again, I haven't explored it very deeply.

By the way, C said that a gift from you arrived at her workplace. Thank you! I can't wait to see it!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, we sent you something we thought was cool from your registry. I love being able to afford to give gifts.

[identity profile] cmdavi-70.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
She's been out at a grad school conference the last couple days, so I haven't yet seen it, but I probably will tonight! It's great that you not only feel able to take care of yourself but to be generous with your money!

I have a very good idea for what to get you and H. I had wanted to get it after my last paycheck, but my budget's been tight. I'll get it out to you next week for sure.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, that's exciting!

Brilliant!
