This weekend in white trash history:

I was gonna post about my shower, all the people who came, games we played, gifts I got, etc. But when I woke up for work this morning I read about this white trash fist fight at the Mtv awards. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't both those guys in their 40's? Older? Far too old to be scuffling like frat boys at a public event; and over Pam Anderson no less? She's pretty gross. Anyway, Kid Rock proves himself to be as classy as ever.

As if that weren't bad enough, it seems Britney Spears was outright laughed at for not being as sexy as she was before she had two kids. Not that I'm a fan or anything, but geez, that's harsh. Everybody lip synchs at those things, give the poor trailer girl a break. I mean, how much would it suck to be washed up at 25?

Everytime I miss watching one of Mtv's gala award shows, I miss something funny.

My shower was fun though I still have a ton of cleaning up to do. I hope H helps out with it since I have to work all day today and tomorrow till 9pm. Now that the shower is over, it's time to get even more serious about doing the rest of the wedding stuff. I have a lot left to do.

Also, I have to start making the music list for the reception. What songs would you absolutely HATE to hear at a wedding reception? Be honest.

*grin* I liked the comment from Jamie Foxx about stopping all this white-on-white violence.

Hmm, I doubt you'd play anything I'd absolutely hate. Any standard sappy wedding stuff--"Wind Beneath My Wings", etc--that kind of malarkey would send me running.

Ha! I promise there will be no Bette Midler of any kind.

Well, "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" would be all right. ; )

The songs that send me over the edge will probably NOT be played at your reception, anyway. We're talking Macarena and Hokey-Pokey.

LOL We're okay then.

Had fun at the shower. Rubbed my tattoo off with a towel last night...they lied I didn't need baby oil lol

I'm glad to hear it, on both counts!

Ooh--one song that I absolutely hate, but that would be extra awful at a wedding reception, regardless of the condition of the bride:

"Havin' My Baby"

I'm totally with you on that.

it's Tommy Lee and Kid Rock you're talking about, though...no matter how old they are, I think there's always a risk for some kind of fight...

another friend of mine posted via a MySpace blog about feeling too old watching the VMAs...I've tuned those out several years ago, because the music is almost all not what I listen to, and it's all this crazy-edited lip-synched crap...I think once Britney Spears had the centerpiece annual performance instead of Madonna, it kinda jumped the shark, imho...and man, it's pathetic that Britney is such a train wreck...my ex used to be all into her in the beginning...I'm curious what he thinks of her now, haha...

HaHA indeed!

I've always been more partial to the movie awards than the music one. I don't care much for what Mtv calls music.

There are a million and ten trite wedding songs that I hope will not be played at either of our weddings, the most obnoxious of which include anything by Whitney Houston, Bryan Adams, Dan Fogelberg, or that song by Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul, and Mary fame: "There is Love," I think it's called. *shudder*

On the other hand, there are also the "fun-loving" reception cliches like "The Chicken Dance," "Celebration," and "YMCA" that I can also completely do without.

You've given me a lot to think about here.

Okay, not really. ;-]
I wouldn't have any of those there anyway.

[identity profile] cmdavi-70.livejournal.com 2007-09-11 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I figured as much. :)

I suppose among popular romantic ballads, I could go with "Here, There, and Everywhere" or "In My Life" by The Beatles or any number of old soul/Motown classics. We're trying to compile a list of songs for my Ipod to play at our wedding. We like an awful lot of music that isn't necessarily good for a wedding or reception.

Yeah, H and I are having the same problem.
