Thoughts I plucked from my head:

Think women have come a long way in society? You won't when you read the sexist, sizist, materialistic to an outrageous extreme rantings over at True Bride Confessions. I've been trying to think of something to post there, but I don't have any of the bullshit worries that these women have. My FH isn't cheating, he treats me right, my IL's are awesome, and I don't care how fat myself or my bridesmaids are--I only have a MOH and she's cute as a bug. They post about cheating and wanting to cheat, secretly hating their husbands and all kinds of stuff. It's insane. Maybe I'll make up something funny to post.

While planning for the wedding, it becomes increasingly obvious how grateful I am that [livejournal.com profile] uterdic has agreed to participate. In case you didn't know, he's walking me down the aisle and basically standing in for my family, who will not be in attendance. The more I think of it, he is really the representation of the very idea of having friends instead of family. When I think of being walked down the aisle by a good friend whom I trust implicitly, I'm not sad for the lack of family, I'm glad for the love of good friends. How's THAT for sappy? It's taken me a long time to get to this place where I'm...I won't say I'm not pissed at my family, but I'm considerably less pissed simply because I'm learning how not to let it affect me so much.

After Group, I came home and outlined 40 chapters of my serial killer. If all goes according to plan, this novel will indeed come out to 80K words. That will make it my longest novel yet. I also think it will be my best one to date. There's a new chapter posted (locked) over at [livejournal.com profile] wednes_writes, which you should totally join if you haven't yet.

The new line of wedding dresses over at Zaftique has got me wishing I'd bought a white dress. People are going to think it's my second wedding because I'm not wearing anything remotely white. Then again, what care I for the thoughts of others? Yeah...They are awfully nice looking dresses though. If I had a job, I could just buy one.

Things like that true brides thingy just blows my mind....I was like you, I never had any of those worries. Anyway... I hope you only have to kill your victims once this time around....no battery issues. lol.

I'm working on the other book, but it feels kinda jumpy to me, time line wise that is.... Anyway, I am finding things here and there and I am making notes in the one I printed out and will email you a list of the things that I see that could be changed and such. Okay enough babbling from me ~ lol.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure I posted about it, but I did get a new (used) battery so from now on, everyone only dies once.

I look forward to your notes.

[identity profile] ladybutterfly74.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
yay only dying once is a good thing *wink*

hehehehe

I will keep working away on it and get back with you on it soon.

*loves*

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
Cool, I hope you are finding things to like about it.

[identity profile] ladybutterfly74.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
why yes I am... =)

Who's your daddy now!?

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I love you too ;)

Have I mentioned my friend the wedding videographer? He's told me some crazy stories of bridezillas and their moms. You definitely should make up something funny to post (and link to it). : )

New chapter! Yay!! *runs off to read it*

[identity profile] sudrin.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Where is the True Bachelor Confessional site?!

[identity profile] purplecat-a2.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I was watching Bridezillas this weekend. One woman thought her brides maids were too fat, so she would only let them eat a little bit of rice the night before the wedding, then she padlocked the fridge shut. I would have said "see ya later" if someone did that to me.

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That would have such a different feel to it. It would be totally awesome, and hilarious, unless you were the bride to be.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet people who work weddings have seen some unbelievable shit. I thought on women on TV lost their minds over weddings, but it seems pretty common. Even I occasionally fall under the crazy wedding spell.

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
reason #536 why I won't tape* weddings.

*heh, I almost said, "shoot" weddings, but that would maybe something I could bring myself to do :)

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I know...it's just another way that women are so into the marriage thing and men aren't. I mean, GI Joe never had a tuxedo'd groom playset, nor did Steve Austin, and he actually did get married on his show.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG I saw that. Unbelievable. Yeah, I would've bolted...you know, after dinner. ;-]

Did you see the one with the gay couple and the "bridezilla" kept getting drunk and abusive to his planner? I would have laughed if it hadn't been so awful.

Yeah, it seems to be a pretty far-reaching virus. And hard not to fall under it, I can imagine. There are so many things to worry about, it would be easy to go a little overboard.

[personal profile] groovesinorbit 2007-06-21 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you couldn't pay me enough to tape weddings.

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
You could pay me enough, but there are very few people willing to pay what I think is an appropriate amount for a wedding.

I base my price on what a photographer would likely charge. Let's say $2,000 for the wedding and proofs (this is based on professional photographers I have known and this is maybe a 60th percentile bracket. Below what i would consider my classification of shooter and editor.

So that's 2 grand for one afternoon, now let's add what happens during a video shoot:
3 cameras ($12000)
operators for the cameras ($100 each for the day)
lighting (because there's no such thing as good lighting in a church) ($4000 for a pretty good kit)
sound (try to get a bride to wear a wireless mic) ($2k for mics, 450 for mixer)
turning all the footage into a simple story that reflects the events during the wedding (say about 20 hours) ($1500, and I'm being nice)
DVD authoring (maybe $200)
touching base with the photographer and trying to talk him into using his pics in a DVD slideshow
getting the music used during the wedding, reception so you can use it for slideshows
tweaking (priceless, who knows, but it's a pain that I would want to charge for)

total: over $20k, now I wouldn't charge that much for one client, but I think that around $8-10k is appropriate if they are willing to pay a photographer $2000 for one day of work.

whew, sorry about that, I'm done

[identity profile] diachrony.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
HOLY COW.

[identity profile] diachrony.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I just read a few of the top comments on the bride confessions site, but they were too depressing for me to keep reading. I always just feel glad I don't have to deal with any of that stuff!

On the other hand, some of those Zaftique dresses sure were pretty. I especially liked the first one, with all the beading.

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly, that's why I won't do it. People want their wedding videos to look like movies, but don't want to pay for it. I don't even think photographers are necessarily charging too much, but I came up with my scale based on what they charge, and if they are willing to pay the photographer that much, then they should be willing, under the same scale, to pay me 8-10k for equal quality work. if they just want me to tape it and give them the cassette when it's all done, they will hate it and never watch it again anyway, so I might as well give them quality product. Plus I'll not tarnish my reputation by doing crappy work.

At least Wednes has heard me bitch about this before, so i don't feel too bad making post after post about it here. Besides, I'm trying to educate and inform that it's not an easy business, and there's a reason I get paid for the work I do.

[personal profile] groovesinorbit 2007-06-21 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a problem. : )

*nods* It adds up, doesn't it? Although my friend gets brides to wear wireless mics pretty easily, and then he has the fun of editing the sound as the couple are getting ready to enter the reception and are telling each other what exactly they're going to do each other after the reception. Does that fall under the tweaking category? ; )

So, what do you shoot?

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I would say that sums up "tweaking" pretty well...

I pretty much do any and every part of video and film production. I work for U of Michigan in a media production facility. I am an Apple certified trainer for Final Cut Pro, and we teach workshops on how to edit. We also have a 3600 sq ft production studio and a brand spanking new audio recording studio that is in the top 50 in the world. We get paid to play with all kinds of new technologies and determine what departments on campus should be using for their facilities. My friends and I have also been making videos since we were 12 years old and have our own production company where we produce something every few years.

Personally, my friends and I make comedies because you can do it on no budget. At my day job we have had something for everybody and then some.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, those brides are nutty. I had no idea so many people disliked their husbands...and their lives for that matter.

I'm trying to figure out how to get the money together to buy the white beaded dress.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I totally agree. People don't understand how much skill and equipment is needed, they seem to operate under the delusion that any moron with a decent camera can make a masterpiece. It just isn't so.
groovesinorbit: (merry and pippin from unknown)

[personal profile] groovesinorbit 2007-06-21 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Very cool. It sounds like you like what you're doing. I'm a film school dropout from a long time ago. I still miss it now and then.

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the kind of wedding video I could actually set through. Even the best I've seen look like dog shit. Mine particularly. The stills guy throws it in, and I guess it's nice to have, but I'd rather rely on good stills than shitty video. A multi camera with good sound and editing would be freakin' awesome!

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw that same show.

[identity profile] thehula.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
But your wedding dress is BEAUTIFUL. I think. I remember seeing it a long time ago. You should post it again, for those of us with bad memories! ;)

http://www.zaftique.com/index.php/detail_page/14202/4f59cd46ba2938fc81d990c43835255b

Yeah, it is rather pretty isn't it?
And that money would be better spent on the honeymoon.

[identity profile] purplecat-a2.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, He ruined his own wedding. Can you say "let it go?"

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you still do any production? I mean, Robert Rodriguez, said that people in film school should take the money they spent on tuition and make a movie with it. My philosophy is that the education is important, but more importantly, someone you went to school with will "make it" and you can then ride their coat-tails in. Meaning, you don't need a degree in motion picture production to make movies.

[identity profile] spiralwitch.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
i am now addicted to that true conffesions site.

and i don't think people will think it's your second marriage! blue is a wonderful alternative to the traditional white.
groovesinorbit: (willow and buffy)

[personal profile] groovesinorbit 2007-06-22 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately not. I've been out of school for more than 20 years and into other things (and not a lot of disposable income). Although the idea is always a little nag in the back of my head.

*grin* Very true! I think film school had its merits and was good for meeting other folks who like to play with movies, but the only one I'm still in touch with turned into the wedding videographer, giving up his potential film career (he made some killer zombie flicks that I got to be in). No coat-tails for me.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
His wanting Mercedes golf carts was hilarious...especially at the last minute. She's a planner, not a magician!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It is an awful pretty dress. I just have to get it hemmed so it doesn't drag on the ground.

And yeah, that site is really something.

[identity profile] spiralwitch.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
it cost so much to hem my dress that i ended up having to get 4 inch heels to avoid the situation!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I'm worried about. It's a two layer gathered hem...so it will cost a fortune.

I may just let it drag and pretend it's a train.

[identity profile] owl-clan.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)

Have you ever considered that you are a very foolish, low quality person? Have you ever once considered that going to bitch and whine at "templeofthecat" only reveals your lack of character, and shows the rest of the world (aside from the losers there) that you never grew out of the "I'll tell my mommy" phase of your early development?

You can believe all the stupid stories about me that you want, but please explain to me how my Yahoo! Son_of_Art group has 600 "Sockpuppets" subscribed. Explain the dozens of LJ communities I belong to and post at regularly, and explain how well my books sell. Despite what your sycophantic partners over at TOC say, and despite what the jealous, impotent, and pedantic fools on your friends list say, I am me; I am not an army of sockpuppets. I'm a writer, a father, a scholar and a folklorist.

I have strong opinions, and for daring to have those opinions, and for DARING to use language that other people don't like, I've been branded a "troll" by ONE clique at LJ. Stop kidding your very over-fed face: I'm not who they say I am. And I'm quite welcome practically every place online except for the THREE communities that are modded by the asspounding censorship artists that you have on your friends list. Hint: You are judged by the company you keep.

I invite you to continue to speak ill of me behind my back, hiding like a coward at "TOC" and wherever else your Overweight Internet Users Anonymous support group meets online; notice that I have spoken to you DIRECTLY to your (hard to miss) face, even if it is a virtual face. If you were near me "IRL", I'd tell you these things personally. Get off your stupid whinerbaby "Anti-RA clique" dramatics. The day you do that, maybe (just maybe) you'll begin the long, long walk to true personhood and reality. In the meantime, stop talking crap about me, and stop calling my friends and the people who appreciate my work my "following"- they are just people like anyone else, not followers.

Oh, and big PS: the next time someone says that I did some terrible thing- why don't you ask for evidence, instead of believing everything you hear like a lemming? Ask for the evidence of what they say I've done before, while you're at it- because I only admit to one thing: Being me, and not taking crap from anybody, even people who count as two people, like you. You got an issue? Go get a tissue.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's quite a response to something that happened months and months ago.

"I" lack character? How much character does it take to crash someone's journal to make fat jokes and insults to a person they know nothing about.

I dislike you, I dislike everything you say. Deal with it. You obviously have similar contempt for me...that being the case, why don't you just go away? If you come to my journal again, you will once again be reported to Lj abuse.

[identity profile] thorswitch.livejournal.com 2007-06-25 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, some of the things brides bitch about just make me roll my eyes in disgust. They really don't get what a wedding is all about, or what kind of REAL problems they may end up facing during their lives (being homebound for about a decade anyone?) Though, I did have to agree with one bride who was really frustrated about her friends and family bugging her about when they're going to start having children. I will never be as grateful for anything as I am first, that my husband loves me and second, that both his parents and mine are absolutely accepting of our decision not to have children.

That's great that you're going to be able to have your friend support you for your wedding AND that you've found yourself being happy for having a friend and not missing your family. I'm so happy for you!!

I may have to check out your serial killer story sometime when I'm not trying to catch up on all my messages and such - I love good crime novels :D Good luck with it!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-06-25 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed, I feel very blessed with friends and future-family who are loving and supportive. That kind of thing makes all the difference. Those brides who focus on the size of the ring or the cost of the wedding are nutso.

I would love for you to join [livejournal.com profile] wednes_writes. Hopefully you'll find things you enjoy there.
