Things I watch and wonder and do:

We watched Taledega Nights: Ricky Bobby Story tonight. It had some very funny moments but also dragged in places. I think the whole Wil Ferrell/Judd Apatow team could use some fresh blood...new writers or something. I daresay it's high time Wil Ferrell branched out into something besides juvenile comedy.

Battlestar Galactica was kind of a disappointment as well. How much longer are they going to tease us with promises of Baltar getting his due? I know there was supposed to be a death, but the way all that was handled was just...expected I think. I don't like to guess what's going to happen five minutes into an episode. Nor do I care for the whole "OMG It's YOOOOOOOU!!" reveal only to tell us jack shit. PS Please resolve this Dee/Starbuck/Apollo/Sam business. It's also getting tired as hell.

We're going to try yet again to go to Cobblestone Farms tomorrow to reserve our date. I still don't know where we're going to get our cake from. I don't want to spend more than $200 including delivery, and I want about 120 slices. I guess that's a little optimistic, but it must be possible. I guess I'll have to have an average sheet cake instead of a pretty one. H is being a really good sport considering he doesn't care square one about the wedding and is paying for everything.

Ooh, does anybody know where I can get a nice, festive besom for jumping over?

Sopranos on A&E is much better than you think it will be. A lot more chicks in lingerie than I remember, and everybody says "Freakin' this" and "Freakin' that". But it's such a good show that it loses very little in the translation.

Oh, and the new season of ROME kicks every kind of ass.
Last week's ep was terribly depressing though.
I don't think we're ever going to see the Vorena again. ;-[

Stranger Than Fiction was the best movie I saw last year and he was great in it. It was disappointing how little recognition it got.

You know, I still haven't seen it and I meant to.

Should be out on DVD soon though.

RE: Battlestar....they're killing off a "main" character this season, supposedly. Like, one who appears in the main credits. And supposedly it's one of the credited characters who is a cylon.

Helo? Would explain how they can breed. ;-)

Ha! I do not think it's Helo. Nor do I think it's Gaius because that's just too easy.

I hope it's not Gaeta.

To be fair to Talladega Nights, what you probably saw was the DVD version, am I correct? I remember thinking the same thing, and then realizing that I had been watching the "Unrated" version, which (presumably) was a bit more self indulgent than the cinematic release.

I definitely liked it more than Anchorman, which seemed to be just a whole lot of mugging.

You woke the bears, why did you DO that?

Indeed, it was the DVD version. You are quite right to point out that it will be the most self indulgent version.

But I must disagree in that I found Anchorman to be hilarious almost all the way through. The gang fight sequence is one of the most surreal and amazing scenes in modern comedy.

My Anchorman experience is so at odds with the opinions of pretty much everybody I respect that I reckon I shall have to watch it again.

I love lamp

You really should. Some of it dips into the extremely juvenile, but it's a very funny movie. There is great chemistry among the leads and I think overall that Judd Apatow is going to be a huge comedy writer...huger than he is now.

I certainly hope you are familiar with Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared. I shoot tiny heart-shaped laser beams at them.

I've already discussed them with you, haven't I?

It's just a knee-jerk reaction whenever Mr. Apatow is brought up.

I was able to watch a few eps of Undeclared as a buddy had taped them (yeah, on a TAPE). Funny stuff, reminds me of a funnier My So Called Life.

I also found 40 year old Virgin very funny and much less juvenile than Anchorman.

I had fun watching Apollo hugging the "Consolation prize" Of course if it was me I'd be stuck staring at Dee's eyes all the time. They are hypnotic. I think situations like this DO exist in the real world though.. Maybe not quite as elaborate as that, but I suspect there has been a person or two who knew the person they were with would really rather be with another person they both knew. The irony I though was that Apollo knew that they only way he could get Anders to do what he wanted was to get Dee to do something he DIDN'T want and I am fairly sure he knew he'd be in trouble later for it.

I'm sure that sort of thing happens in real life often enough. So it does stand to reason that it would also happen in the future or in space or whatever. But that doesn't mean I want them to focus on it when there's toasters to be killed.

I must admit though how much that sucks for Dee. She's a good kid and all, though she wasn't very nice to Billy. I bet she'll end up with Gaeta as long as he's a person and not a cylon.
