Vwing Vwing Vwiiiiing, Glavin? OR Takin' her for a Test Toast!

H's wedding tunic
H's wedding tunic

I've scoured the globe looking for a proper tunic for H, and I daresay this is it.

I found out that the place I wanted to have the reception wants $750. I guess that is reasonable, but it doesn't mean we can pay it. That plus the (remarkably affordable) photographer = half our budget. I might have to talk to H about expanding a bit. Of course that will probably mean that my engagement ring will be made of onion and tempura batter--but what's the hell. Plus, it seems like a honeymoon is out of the question. Drag. Then again, I don't like other people much, and even when you leave Ann Arbor--people are almost everywhere. I know I should be being happy and not complaining, but it's a bummer sometimes. Even though I don't miss MY family so much, I miss the idea of having a family for these types of occasions. Sometimes I feel very cheated by all that.

We had to buy a new toaster today because our old one had, I think, some ants in it from our horrible ant infestation. It's clearing up rapidly due to my repeated applications of bleach; but my hands are not thanking me for it, even with the gloves. The new toaster is nice, and our old one was 8 years old. It has different settings for frozen and bagels and stuff, plus the dial setting and a button to make your stuff pop up. It's by Oster.
I also grocery shopped and had to pay a mysterious $10 copay for my scrips, which I shouldn't. And I helped my buddy clean his condo because he is moved into his new house. I don't usually take paid cleanning work, but I'm fairly desperate for cash.

I came into possession of a groovy green checkered rug. It would look wonderful in a living room, conversation pit, or anyplace you want to look green and checky. Let me know if you want it, cause I'm giving it away. It's nice! But it clashes with my regular rug.

Got a Sadie rejection in the Email today. Frown. I'd sent out the query in 08 of 05, and they just turned it down today. I thought that might mean they were looking at it for real; but somebody else on my flist got turned down by them also today. That makes my dellusion seem far less likely.

I'm going to try to make myself some slippers soon. But maybe not because tomorrow at midnight starts NaNoWriMo wherein if I finish, I will have written two novels this year. That, my friends, would be bad ass! Plus I'm very well plotted and outlined this year, which I am not usually. My novel from last year fell apart like a rain soaked paper dress when I tried to edit it. There's a lot of great stuff there, and even more vaguely compelling business that doesn't go anywhere.
This years novel is the chemognosis thingy I was working on where a woman ultimatley turns into a cat to smite her enemies. Well, one enemy in particular, but you know...once you get to smiting it's kind of hard to get a handle on. I seem to do well with simple stories told in an interesting way. Color me Dennis Lehane or some such.

You people are going to look so supremely awesome at this whole weddin' business!

Also, I already envy your NaNo progress. Good luck!! And I seriously like the smiting of enemies, of course, so it seems pretty super.

LOL Thanks!
The wedding will be pretty even if everyone leaves hungry ;-]

I was debating skipping NaNo this year, but then I put aside a project that was really bugging me (this big cross stitch thing I was making for my MIL to be--I'm putting it off until Mother's Day and giving them homeade cookies and stuff.

To be fair, I should mention that this is a writing project I started last summer. If you're a previous NaNo winner you're allowed to pick up on an old project instead of starting fresh. I thought that was awesome, and totally cinched me playing this year. Did I say playing? I meant participating earnestly and in a serious fashion...of course!

Eh, wedding food is hardly the least of anyone's concerns. Better that everything looks pretty, in my opinion. Seems to me that girl spends her time dreaming about the perfect wedding buffet table. haha

I'm glad you're not skipping it, even if you get to go be all special and work on previous things. We can both participate earnestly and in a serious fashion! That is obviously my plan...

Cool, man.

I imagine I'll be getting started at midnight tomorrow.

You might want to look into synthetic gemstones. They are simply grown in a lab but they are MUCH cheaper.

I've heard about this, but have no idea where to get them. Google, here I come!!!

That's a great tunic. You two are gonna make a terrific-looking pair at the wedding!

Thanks!

I mean, we're pretty hot anyway...but yeah, the clothes will help.

my email is birdmoney@gmail.com, i have a few photographer friends who may be less expensive, but i dare not ask what you've been quoted in a public forum, so let me know via email, and pleae, please, please invite me to said handfasting, regardless the fact that it has been too long i have visited.

:)

Oh no, I'm very pleased with the price I got for the photog. It's someone you know--who does excellent work.

It's the $750 for the hall that's causing me stress. Thank you, though.

And of course, you will be invited.

If you and H could go on a honeymoon, where would it be? Reasonably priced areas with pretty scenery include East Tawas, Rogers City and (if you don't stay IN the city,) Mackinac.

Frankly I'd like to show H more of Michigan. Even Sleeping Bear dunes would be cool. At the same time, it's really important to me to be able to invite everyone I want to the wedding. Only about 100 people...but still.

Then again, H doesn't even have a petosky stone and he's been in Michigan for over ten years.

Cool tunic! H is going to look quite sharp.

Good luck with NaNoWriMo this year. Two novels in a year would, indeed, be kick ass.

Thank you!

I'm excited for naNo, and I'm stoked to see H in a Jedi tunic.

2 x Woot!!

We went on a delayed honeymoon...that might be an option? You know when you recover from the hit on the wallet from the wedding.

Great Tunic!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually yeah, we could take a trip anytime. I guess I wasn't prepared for how expensive certain things would be--and we're getting some great deals on things. But $750 for a hall is a lot of money to us...then again, I'm only getting married once.

[identity profile] kissdbyagnome.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah I agree, it is a lot! expec. when you are on a tight budget. i didn't pay that much for the grosvenor house (we paid 350 or 450, can't remember) i really think you should look into museums, parks, local places of interests etc, for a reception and marriage site.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Problem is, in Ann Arbor anything remotes suitable is really expensive. We may end up looking closer to Detroit...but we don't drive so it'll be a pain in the ass.

[identity profile] kissdbyagnome.livejournal.com 2006-11-02 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
good idea:)

[identity profile] kissdbyagnome.livejournal.com 2006-11-02 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
i keep forgetting to give you this site. it has some reasonable priced rings and you can pay on them in payments. i've never shopped from them however, so i'm not sure how they are.
http://www.ice.com

if you go the diamond route, and you do white gold, make sure the color is no less then H-I (if you go lower the diamond may look dirty or yellowish.) if you do yellow gold, I-J will work.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-11-02 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
We picked out the ring yesterday. It's quite something, a sizeable pink sapphire surrounded with sapphires and diamonds. Quite a stunner. I'm thinking probably a small, channel set diamond band to go with. H is being a surprisingly good sport about my newly acquired diamond fetish. ;-]

The site you mention has some great channel set bands, so that's cool by me.

[identity profile] kissdbyagnome.livejournal.com 2006-11-02 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
oh wow, sounds lovely:) can't wait to see it!

yeah it's weird how diamonds become oddly important.
