I am almost speechless.

Ann Arbor transit system is planning to cut the number 5 bus sometime in the next few months. Guess what that means?

If you can beleive the abject terror of this, it means we will have to move again!!!

I swear, I am to the point of throwing furniture I'm so angry right now.

EDIT: In case some of you forgot, we had a terrible time getting this apartment becaue we don't pass RentSafe screening.
We might even have to leave town. Frown.

In better news, H and I are seeing Harry Potter together in about an hour.

This is why I drive. Well. Actually it's because I live in the sticks and the only way to get anywhere is to drive.

I'm a rapid cycling bi-polar with a closed head injury. I don't really have that option. Besides, we're poor as fuck.

You'd be up a creek here then. It's a four mile walk to the nearest thing resembling a town.

I signed the petition, for what it's worth.

Love you!

Thanks man.

I miss you. We need to get together.

What is rent safe screening?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-02-21 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's a credit thing that basically says if you've been sent to collections for anything (including blockbuster and shit) in the last year, you can't get an apartment. More than 98% of apartment complexes in Ann Arbor use it.

That really sucks! For you, and for the community. Let's just make more people drive and clog up the roads, and those that can't drive, well, screw them. Grrr.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-02-21 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's just such a huge slam to the poor.

How can a college town cut BUS routes?! that totally sucks! I'm sorry.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-02-21 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
They are keeping the college lines and cutting the ones poor people in Ypsi use to get to and from work. Also, it is the bus line that all three of my doctors are on, so I won't be able to get there for less than $8 each way, instead of $1.

You know, I heard about this, and in combination with the basically-dead proposal of expanding AATA service into Canton, Plymouth and Belleville (even to the airport, right down the street from me), it is more evidence of the dire need for effective mass transit around here, something less sensitive to the whims and cycles of urban fortunes.

As for RentSafe, it is a slam to a lot of people, and seems particularly out of place in a city like Ann Arbor, which is ironically one of the most unfriendly places for those with little or no money. The only cities I can think of, at least offhand, which are even worse are Troy, Birmingham and Northville.

I don't mind telling you that I was totally baffled when we flunked rentsafe. H has an impeccable rental history, and has for the last ten years.

Working at the shelter, I became much more aware of how difficult it is for people to bounce back from homelessness. No one wants to hire you, no one wants you to move it...and everyone is judging you because you have no home and no job.
