Goblet of Fire goes down Smooth!
As you must all know by now, I and about five million other people went to the IMAX to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Wanna know what I thought of it?
Dude, it was pretty freaking good. Obviously the story was going to be cut down considerably to make the giant tome into a 2 1/2 hour movie. With that in mind, I think they did a fabulous job of being true to the story and the characters as well as emphasising plot over visuals.
This is not to say that the visuals aren't amazing. They were. But fanboys and nerdgirls are used to that by now. Every since that Gandalf guy fought that big dragon thing and became a white wizard, fans of CGI have been pretty difficutl to impress. We're also used to lots of jokes, cartoonish super villany and people being really, REALLY into what they were doing.
Awesome new characters included Madame Maxine, Mad Eye Moody, Rita Skeeter, and Karkaroff and Krum were all pretty awesome. Ralph Feinnes as Voldemort was creepy as hell; genuinely scarier than Voldie's ever been in the past. In fact, this whole movie is darker, more frightening, and more suspenseful than the last. They even snuck in a few swears. Oh, and Barty Junior was damn, DAMN fine to look at.
What was missing? Well, Winky for one. That was a drag. I would have loved to see more of the Quidditch World Cup. Rita Skeeters storyline was chopped quite a bit. Bagman, Bertha Jorkins, and the 3 oldest Weasley brothers did not appear, nor did Molly. I daresay though, it's okay with me because Gred and Forge were at their best yet. Overall, good times.
Will I see it again? Probably on Monday!

sweinberg for the awesome package of movies I recieved in the mail today. Not sure if you timed that to arrive near my birthday party, but either way it was pretty slick. There is all manner of obscure low budget horror from the last few years. This includes my favorite hilarious shark movie Shark Attack 3: Megalodon. Here's what I said about this movie last summer!! Also included were such gems as Ghost Rig, Hunting Humans, The Bunker, and Arachnia. Of course, I'll also get to see such genius actors as Jeff Fahey (who has actually done some horror I love and own), Robert Giuillaume, Chris Atkins, and a whole slew of teenagers we'll probably never hear from again.
Now I am baking cake and peanut butter fudge candy for tomorrows gala gathering.
