Goblet of Fire goes down Smooth!

As you must all know by now, I and about five million other people went to the IMAX to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Wanna know what I thought of it?

Dude, it was pretty freaking good. Obviously the story was going to be cut down considerably to make the giant tome into a 2 1/2 hour movie. With that in mind, I think they did a fabulous job of being true to the story and the characters as well as emphasising plot over visuals.

This is not to say that the visuals aren't amazing. They were. But fanboys and nerdgirls are used to that by now. Every since that Gandalf guy fought that big dragon thing and became a white wizard, fans of CGI have been pretty difficutl to impress. We're also used to lots of jokes, cartoonish super villany and people being really, REALLY into what they were doing.
Awesome new characters included Madame Maxine, Mad Eye Moody, Rita Skeeter, and Karkaroff and Krum were all pretty awesome. Ralph Feinnes as Voldemort was creepy as hell; genuinely scarier than Voldie's ever been in the past. In fact, this whole movie is darker, more frightening, and more suspenseful than the last. They even snuck in a few swears. Oh, and Barty Junior was damn, DAMN fine to look at.

What was missing? Well, Winky for one. That was a drag. I would have loved to see more of the Quidditch World Cup. Rita Skeeters storyline was chopped quite a bit. Bagman, Bertha Jorkins, and the 3 oldest Weasley brothers did not appear, nor did Molly. I daresay though, it's okay with me because Gred and Forge were at their best yet. Overall, good times.

Will I see it again? Probably on Monday!

Maddest props go to [livejournal.com profile] sweinberg for the awesome package of movies I recieved in the mail today. Not sure if you timed that to arrive near my birthday party, but either way it was pretty slick. There is all manner of obscure low budget horror from the last few years. This includes my favorite hilarious shark movie Shark Attack 3: Megalodon. Here's what I said about this movie last summer!! Also included were such gems as Ghost Rig, Hunting Humans, The Bunker, and Arachnia. Of course, I'll also get to see such genius actors as Jeff Fahey (who has actually done some horror I love and own), Robert Giuillaume, Chris Atkins, and a whole slew of teenagers we'll probably never hear from again.

Now I am baking cake and peanut butter fudge candy for tomorrows gala gathering.

mmm peanut butter fudge!!!! ill definitely be making some of that someday soon--i like it better than chocolate fudge :)

Me too. I never make "real fudge" just fudge candy. There's this one chocolate dealie my mom used to make out of marhsmallow creme. I liked it as a kid. Now I use Alton Browns peanut butter fudge candy recipe and just make the choco ganache for the top.

Very crowd pleasin'
I have a freind who eats so much it worries me, because he is a diabetic.

'Every since that Gandalf guy fought that big dragon thing'

Demon thing.

Okay. That seems reasonable.

I just think if I don't know which god sent it, I have a hard time thinking of it as a demon.

It was baddass though.

If you want to get technical, its name was a balrog. Balrogs are Maiar who were corrupted into the service of Morgoth who in turn is a god and the first big-evil-thing in the middle-earth universe.

Maiar are lesser spirits or gods (the full blown gods are the Valar.) Sauron, Saruman and Gandalf are also examples of Maiar.

It's much easier to just describe it as a demon. =p

No sorry, I checked and i'm wrong slightly. The full blown gods were Ainur. Valar was the term for the good ones, so technically Morgoth wasn't a Valar.

Whoa, that actually made sense to me. Go figure.

Thanks!

i enjoyed the movie. They did a great job at making you feel for the characters. I agree about seeing it again. My only complaints(not about the movie) was that i was in the second row, and two girls(about 13-15) were talking constantly. It was horrid, one girl kept constantly asking who is that what are they doing, why, what is going to happen. I wanted to beat them both into a pulp. Other then that it was great and my best friends birthday:) Have a great day!

I enjoyed it very much too. I thought they stewed it down well. I was looking foward to more of the "enchantment" from the Fleur Delacour group. I was however very giggly over the PG13 aspects (harry in the tub, hagrids hand moving to the madams bum). Found that very amusing.

/my two cents.

If you go again on Monday take me! because I don't have anyone to see it with, and seeing a movie alone while on vacation is like... well.. like something.

Yup Yup. *nods*

When Ron told Harry to piss off, the whole IMAX audience gasped!
