This thing which just happened:

So a few minutes ago I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] psychswitch on the phone so he'd know when we're going to see Land of the Dead. Someone knocked on the door, and the dog started going all crazy so I had to see who it was. It turns out, it was these two guys from the Baptist church handing out those little fliers they have. Not the good ones like comics, but the regular ones inviting us to come worship with them.

Without even thinking I was like, "Oh, no...well, I'm a witch. Thanks." I showed them my tatoo and was like, "Thanks guys, really. But I'm good." They wished me a good evening and left. Suddenly, I found that very funny.

Me, Halloween 2004

Maybe because my tat is in some ways "Protective". And today, it protected me from an intrusive assault by the local baptists. Could you imagine if you were having a gathering and just randomly started knocking on doors inviting people? *shudder*

So mormonism is like a pyramid scam.

My point was more that they don't believe it to be rude. Manners are subjective. If I can't expect people to telepathically know that I don't like to be hugged, then how can you expect people to telepathically know that you don't want to find enlightenment through Christ. But when you told them, they left. That's the difference between a polite person and a rude person. A rude person would have insisted on preaching to you.

You would understand if you weren't such a godless heathen.

I do realize that there are different viewpoints on this. But even with that in mind, it seems like the average person would not like a stranger to knock in thier door to ask them to workship with them.

Spirituality is intensly personal and not an appropriate topic for polite conversation. Miss Manners even says so, and Ann Landers agrees. Besides, even if another pagan came to my door and did the same thing, I would still find it rude.

However, if I ask them to leave and they don't, they aren't being impolite. They are tresspassing.

I'm not defending them. I'm just saying that they don't know any better. Devout christians are like children. They are very simple minded.

But see, that's not really the case. H and his family are very devout. Even fundies have some very smart people among thier ranks. I do know the type to which you refer, but that is not all or even most Christians.
