This thing which just happened:

So a few minutes ago I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] psychswitch on the phone so he'd know when we're going to see Land of the Dead. Someone knocked on the door, and the dog started going all crazy so I had to see who it was. It turns out, it was these two guys from the Baptist church handing out those little fliers they have. Not the good ones like comics, but the regular ones inviting us to come worship with them.

Without even thinking I was like, "Oh, no...well, I'm a witch. Thanks." I showed them my tatoo and was like, "Thanks guys, really. But I'm good." They wished me a good evening and left. Suddenly, I found that very funny.

Me, Halloween 2004

Maybe because my tat is in some ways "Protective". And today, it protected me from an intrusive assault by the local baptists. Could you imagine if you were having a gathering and just randomly started knocking on doors inviting people? *shudder*

Heh heh heh...

Actually, my late Mom used to have a lot of fun at the expense of passing Evangelist-types. She'd always invite them in, listen to their script, then talk rings around them, because she knew their material a LOT better than they did. Always left confused, and rarely made return trips. In door-to-door pestering school, they prepare you for hostility, but they don't prepare you for people who know anything about religion.

I sometimes wonder what happened to those unfortunates who crossed our threshold...did their minds start to melt down?

That's awesome. There's a fabulous episode of Malcom in the Middle where Dewey convinced a nun that God doesn't care about people.

Classic.

Your mom sounds like she was a Class Act!
Brainy fun is the best kind.

Yeah, she was. Easily one of the most tolerant people I've known, yet with an endearing "cranky activist" streak. I recall (in the early 70's) some politician in Erie holding some sort of public meeting on the local PBS station, to talk about Pornography (see under: "terrible public threat")...she went up (nice bespectacled middle-aged woman) and sat in the front row, so they'd call her when she raised her hand. Of course, they did. First words she said were, "I think pornography is JUST FINE!..." so the guy had to do a quick verbal dance to get her to shut up and he could choose somebody who was a little more with the Program...

That is awesome!

Reminscent of when John Denver spoke to Congress at the PMRC hearings. Tipper totally thought he was on thier side when he instead talked about the persecution he felt after releasing Rocky Mountain High. Apartently people thought it was about weed.

Guess ultimately he proved his love of flying...

Yep! Good ol' John Denver...

My favorite comments to the PMRC, as usual, were from Frank Zappa, who was polite and eloquent.

Scary days...
