Well, it IS that terrifying time of year...

The spider I just killed: The spider I just killed:

This picture is the exact same as the spiders we've been finding in our apartment at the rate of about 3 a week. I think there is cause for some alarm here...[profile] uterdic?

In other news, Oxygen came on cable tonight, so I checked it out. I can't quite describe what went wrong with this movie, as it is a good story told with some fabulous performances. Then there are some parts of it that just suck. But this is a great film for Adrien Brody fans if any...I like him in this film a lot. Happily, [profile] lickingtoad and [profile] pak_man78 were onhand to join in the watching of TV and the eating of pizza...and the other kind of pizza too. So in short, all was right with the world.

It turns out that The Village is actually NOT paying $6 an hour across the board. For whatever reason people decided to keep that information from me, knowing full well I would never go work there for such low pay. I guess that's why I get for taking someone's word for it instead of going there myself. Of course, I did fill out an application and they never called me, presumably because I asked for a reasonable wage and/or a management position. I'm just not clear on why people are such selfish bastards when they know how shitty it feels to be out of work. Oh well...I guess I should know better than to rely on other people by this stage in the game. It's just that on top of hurting my feelings, it makes me damn mad.

Am I insane or did the opening credits on SNL tonight include Wil Ferrell?
It was very wierd, not that I watched for long, it's not so funny these days.

Some info for you guys:

In the mature brown recluse spider as well as some other species of recluse spiders, the dark violin marking is well defined, with the neck of the violin pointing toward the bulbous abdomen. The abdomen is uniformly colored, although the coloration can range from light tan to dark brown, and is covered with numerous fine hairs that provide a velvety appearance. The long, thin, brown legs also are covered with fine hairs, but not spines. Adult brown recluse spiders have a leg span about the size of a quarter. Their body is about 3/8 inches long and about 3/16 inches wide. Males are slightly smaller in body length than females, but males have proportionally longer legs. Both sexes are venomous. The immature stages closely resemble the adults except for size and a slightly lighter color. Whereas most spiders have eight eyes, recluse spiders have six eyes that are arranged in pairs in a semicircle on the forepart of the cephalothorax (see close-up view). A 10X hand lens or microscope is needed to see this diagnostic feature. In order to determine the exact species of Loxosceles, the spider's genitalia need to be examined under a high-power microscope. This requires the skills of a spider expert.

Wednes and I talked about the violin (when I was learning about them in NC it was a "fiddle"), and as I have killed a couple of these in our apt., I looked (because I had thought of the recluse as a possibility, but didn't want to scare Wednes), and didn't see this marking.

again, I'm not convinced that they aren't the recluse, but I'm being optimistic (for a change).
