Well, Fuck Me Right in the EAR!
You know how for several days I've been saying how depressed I've been, and sick and such. How things just aren't going my way?
Well, you can mulitply that by about a zillion.
As of 3pm today, Madstone Ann Arbor is no more.
They shut us down, and we have no jobs.
I can't even put into words how upset I am, how betrayed I feel, and how very fucked my life is without a job in the middle of Ann Arbor, in the middle of summer. I mean, we moved into a more expensive apartment so we could be closer to work.
Plus my favorite manager just bought a house and had a kid. I feel even worse for him than i do for me.
Anyway, if you need me, I'll be panicking, pavement pounding, or crying into my dinner.
And if any of you Madstoners are finding out about this here instead of from someone else, sorry you had to find out this way. And I'm still having people over Saturday night to welcome Kassy home. I'm sure she'll need a drink.

Of course I'm peeved on a personal level, too, having not gotten a chance to use my free passes. (Bet my gifting friend is gonna be damned annoyed, too.) But mainly, what a blow to ya'll Madstoners.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance in mood-boosting. And I'll redouble my earlier offer for distraction from depression. My heart goes out to ya.

I didn't go often, but did see some great films there and always found it notable how friendly and helpful the employees were. I knew many parents who were faithful about attending the BYO Baby shows. Which were mentioned in the NYT, for heaven's sake.
I'm really sorry about this--how awful for you and your coworkers.

I noticed in todays A2 news our NY spokesperson insulted our work. Funny thing is, none of us have ever even met that person, so how on earth would she know?
Outdoing the Michigan?

Well, if you hear of any great receptionist/ customer service gigs, do let us know!

That blows. I am terribly sorry to hear that they cut you off cold, without a warning, without anything. Goddam.
You have my sympathies, tremendously so. I shall cross as many fingers and toes as I can get a hold of for you.
(maybe we'll just have to make bread together when the starters come through... ;-)

Sorry to hear this - good luck to you finding something else that you like to do.
That really sucks.
Every time I've heard of something like this, it seems like it does work out for the best eventually - cliched as that is - but in the meantime the disruption can be really shitty. Especially if you were close to some of your coworkers. Anyway, sorry man.

I am damn upset, but I don't think I'd feel better after taking the time to tell the company how stupid they were, and how badly they treated us. If they cared in the first place, they wouldn't treated us better...communicated more and all that.
They didn't.
God, that's horrible.
I'm sorry this happened. I'll cross my fingers for you that you get something even better and very soon. Yikes.

It's very irritating becuase it's clear that they had June 1st in mind as a shut down date and told no one.

I hope you find something soon.
If you lived in CA, my sister in law might be able to get
you work in movies.

Sorry about
(Anonymous) 2004-06-04 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)I've never been to your theatre but I recall sending you a print early this year. I own the screening room in Chicago and we had screened a film called "What Alice Found" a couple times for press in anticipation of it opening at Landmark here. But Landmark delayed the opening. The distributor asked me to hold onto it, which I did. But ultimately Landmark opted not to play it and I received word to send it on to Madstone Ann Arbor. It's funny how one remembers little things like that. Excellent little super low budget shot-on-consumer-grade-video movie, btw. Hope you got a chance to see it.

Re: Sorry about
It is very sad about the theatre. We had an excellent staff in Ann Arbor, while Madstone corporate screwed all of us with thier ignorance and short sightedness. They are shutting down completely at the end of the month.
more theaters closed

Last I heard, there was great pressure to sell San Deigo or get stuck with the lease. they managed to weasel out of thier lease here in A2.
