House of an Indeterminate Number of Corpses

Got really high and went to see House of 1,000 Corpses, at long last!

There were many things to enjoy about this film. The MPAA had to make up a new description for this movie "sadistic violence". If that doesn't creep you out, you and Rob Zombie don't have the same idea of sadistic and creepy... This movie is sadistic and creepy! It is disturbing and horrific and irritatingly gritty, with semi-nude chicks dancing around, and all of the carnival/biker themed madness one has come to expect from Mister Zombie.

After watching the film, I have questions: What were those things in the water? Why would she dream being picked up by Captain Spaulding? How were the characters further developed by the footage I was not allowed to see? And finally, why are people in bunny suits so fucking crazy?

Sid Haig is awesome, the name of the Liquor store is inspired! Karen Black was wonderful to see, but her character should have been more compellingly written. She was wasted in this long, long Rob Zombie video. You'll laugh, you'll scream, you'll probably gag...you'll also wish you'd paid matinee prices.

Rob Zombie has done some cool things with this blatant homage to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and he has taken a basic theme to new levels of shock, gore and disturbing, unexplained craziness. His quick editing style is cool for a little while, but eventually detracts from the relentless violence, and its overall affect on the audience. And to my disappointment, there is no Zombie animation to be found.

You already know if you want to see this movie, so take thyself, and feel free to compare notes with me when you get back...

And now, I'm off to bed.

You know its a wierd thing, because the more I think about the movie, the more it grows on me. And of course, anyone is welcomed and encourage to post conflicting viewpoints...its the only way I'll learn ;)

I *did* know that who the people in the bunny suit were. My comment had to do with the overall craziness of the bunny suit concept. Everytime you see someone in a bunny suit (well, not at Easter, but any other time) you can be sure there is some crazy shit going on.

I think your third point may be up for interpretation. But if in fact, she was picked up by The Cap'n, I think it is safe to assume by that point that he is in league with the killers. I had sort of made that presumption by that point and was silently cautioning her not to get into the car. But I guess by that point, a person would jump in a car with a guy in a devil suit...

I wouldn't say my points were "dislikes" (although upon rereading, i see how you got there); they just made the difference between liking it and loving it. And as I've been saying all along, the DVD will be better. I long to see the version RZ really wanted to show us.

And FYI, I was bummed to see that you had unfriended me.
