So long, farewell, auf weidershen, goodbye!
Despite the fact that I haven't posted in a week, I really do enjoy having a Livejournal. I started this thing in 2002 (with an invite code--'member those?) at the persistent insistence of my dear friend
uterdic. It was great fun then, and slowly more and more of my friends made their way over here, making it even more fun. I started joining comms and meeting more people, and before I knew it, I'd met a great many people here who I've become actual friends with. There's an even larger circle of people I'll probably never hang out with in RL, but whom I love keeping up with.
Whenever I, or my cats, needed something, Lj peeps were there. You guys shared in my sorrow when I lost my job, and when I lost Clarence. You shared in my happiness when I got married, and got published. You followed the saga with my family that continued with me actually having a relationship with various family members. I can honestly say without fluffly, wanky drama, that I really do love and admire a great many of you. (This is one of those rare cases when I probably AM talking about you *snerk*)
So it is with heavy heart that I announce (I opted to forgo the press conference) that am packing up this thing and moving to Dreamwidth. I will probably feed some unlocked posts over here. I cannot allow my locked posts to run the risk of ending up on Facebook, or worse yet...turned into *gak* Tweets. I plan to stop by and read the half dozen or so of you staying here, but this place is a freakin' ghost town anyway. I'm not giving another penny of my dough to a company that doesn't give a rat's ass about my privacy. True, internet privacy is an oxymoron, but if I can't at least pretend that my secrets are safe, I won't be able to sleep at night.
In other news, I'm battling my social anxiety by going to a party tonight where I will ONLY know the hosts. Someone I've never met before (a friend of the hostess)is giving me a ride. Many people don't know how terrifying I find many social situations because I'm usually the one having the party. I'm fine in my own element, but take me out of it and surround me with strangers--it's a recipe for intense nervousness and being downright ascared.
So...you know, wish me luck with all of that.

Hmmm...I feel like people have been discussing me in my absence.
But that's good to know. :-]

I bought a permanent account here several years ago, so it's not like I'm paying them any "extra" money. I've been here since 2002 and, like you, have gotten my money's wort so far. I don't know if I want to start over again. :( But that could just be the "averse to change" part of me talking.
I'm very happy to have met you and I hope you really *do* continue to drop by. Congrats on everything you've done since those days of working with HHB in the theater! :)

Yeah, it is possible to link to a locked post that shows the entire comment thread, and in some cases, the actual post itself. As far as I know, there is no way to change settings to keep this from happening.
I am told that entire journals (including tags and possibly pics) can be imported to Dreamwidth. I would be mortified if anything happened to my journals. I'm still thinking about printing them.
Anyway, you're not gonna get rid of me that easy. I'll be around. :-]

We understand and appreciate your privacy concerns. For this reason, we'll be modifying the comment cross-posting portion of the Facebook and Twitter Connect feature so only comments on public entries (those marked 'Everyone') can be cross-posted. Once we implement this change, it will no longer be possible to cross-post screened comments or comments left on Friends Only entries.
We also wish to address your concerns regarding the following issues:
* Your journal cannot automatically connect to your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts: LiveJournal does not know your Facebook or Twitter identities unless you specifically add this information to your Account Settings. If you do not connect your accounts, you cannot cross-post entries or comments, accidentally or otherwise. Though you still see the cross-post checkboxes when you post, they are completely disabled and cannot be selected. Only if you specifically choose to provide your Facebook or Twitter connection information will these checkboxes become active.
* Cross-posted comments pull only the comment, not the entry content: If you cross-post a comment on another user's entry, only the comment you write will be cross-posted. No additional content will be cross-posted to Facebook or Twitter. That said, we recognize that, if someone decides to quote a portion of a protected entry in a comment, this will be cross-posted too. It is for this reason that we'll be eliminating the ability to cross-post screened comments or comments on Friends Only entries. While we cannot control user behavior and nothing on the Internet is ever completely private, we want to do our very best to ensure that your private content is not cross-posted without your express consent.
* Cross-posted comments contain only a link to the comment: When a comment is cross-posted, the Facebook or Twitter cross-post will include the comment itself (or a short snippet thereof), plus a link to the comment URL. The comment URL will contain the username of the journal in which the comment was posted. If the link is to a Friends Only entry, only the entry's author will be able to see the page when the link is clicked. Some of you have expressed concerns that, in the case of a Friends Only journal, the cross-posted URL would reveal the existence of a journal you intended to keep non-public. This is another reason we are removing the ability to cross-post protected comments. Once this change is made, only comments on entries that are marked public (i.e., 'Everyone') will appear in cross-posts to Facebook or Twitter.

i will miss seeing you around here.
i've heard they're fixing it so that f.o. entries will not be cross posted.
i'll be hanging out here still. like people refusing to leave for a forest fire or hurricane. might just board up the windows a little tigher and stock up on canned goods.
i'll see you around fb too.
