Oh yeah...

Somebody at my work is playing a foul trick on me. They keep putting Twilight themed stuff on my desk, so I find it when I come in. So I've been asking around. My disdain for sparkly vampires is well documented, so in a way I do leave myself open to this sort of lighthearted ribbing. I asked the guy who used to sit next to me if it was him--even though he's in another department now. He laughed and said no...and then sent me this:

'sparkly vampires'

Applying the term "vampire" to a creature that contains no characteristics of the (many) variations of vampires as presented throughout history, no more makes them a vampire then me deciding to call my pet cat Vampire makes him one.

I've read many stories that contain creatures that could conceivably be considered "vampireesque" but use a different term for it to avoid the mass cultural history. These people are good.

Attaching the word vampire to random creatures and people for the sole purpose of cashing in on cultural history, angst, fear and sex appeal associated with the term - earned by many creators that came before - with no attempt to earn that same association yourself? That is stab worthy.

Stab worthy with my Vampire Knife!
