Next, on Conversations I'm Tired of Having:

They: *something controversial online*

Me: "I see. How come?"

They: *something I don't agree with*

Me: "Oh. Well, I don't agree. I think *my thoughts on the subject*"

They: "Oh you *group of people with whose philosophy they disagree* You never respect other people's right to free speech. You always have to argue!"

Me: "Admittedly, I love to have sociopolitical debates. And I do respect your freedom of speech. By all means, say whatever you want. But understand that freedom of speech is for everyone. If you say something as outrageous as *thing* you can't expect people not to respond."

They: "Whatever. I didn't want this to turn into a whole thing. I don't feel like discussing it."

Me: "Then why the fuck did you post about it on the Internet?"

Fin.

LOL, I think I might count this post as a poem. ;-]

Think of it as a Beat Poem.
In memory of those who need to be beat.

I too find that cowards waiting for yes men to unthinkingly follow their idiocy really don't like a well-thought out position or argument of any kind.

I know that I can be rather enthusiastically adversarial from time to time. But if somebody posts something on the internet--it's a logical conclusion that they want to discuss it. Otherwise it's the literary equivalent of yelling from the top of a building, or wearing one of those sandwich board signs.

[identity profile] leemoyer.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yup.

ANd then they never ever actually respond to a point. They distract, obfuscate and then call you a name. Sad little mammals...

[identity profile] lirrin.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
*HAHAH* Best description ever. :)

And totally agreed on the well-thought out position/argument thing. Guh. I *welcome* the people with whom I do not agree who can manage to actually go toe to toe with facts and opinions and insights.

Thanks.

Yeah, I'd love to hear some evidence or facts from these twerps. But since they tend to have nothing but the word of their bankrupt spiritual leaders....

I like this a lot.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Why thanks!

Don't you understand that "freedom of speech" means "I can say whatever I want with no consequences ever," and that the Constitution outlaws those consequences?

In a related note, isn't it unjust that Rush Limbaugh will not be allowed to own part of the St. Louis Rams football team?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
You'd think I would have hipped myself to that, but no.

As for Rush, I think he's overrated on account of his race. LOL. He's probably being persecuted by a minority-centric society. Not to mention the "liberal media" hate him because he's not afraid to tell it like it is. So yes, it's very sad. ;-]
Maybe when he and Glenn Beck get done blowing each other in the FOX parking lot, they can have a domestic beer and cry openly about it.

[identity profile] lirrin.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, tell 'em to go yell FIRE in a crowded theatre and see where it gets 'em... *heheh*

[identity profile] near-dark.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
The more important question is who the fuck would even want to buy the Rams?

[identity profile] maxverbosity.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
Really, it's the people that say ignorant sh*t and then DON'T expect to hear about it that aren't all that up on free speech or free exchange of ideas. One of the great strengths of this country is that we can hound idiocy relentlessly like that until it hides in its little cubby somewhere. Hehe.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's hope so anyway.

[identity profile] hellamama.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
Amen sister.

I like to argue with people like this sometimes, even if I agree with them. It's kind of fun to see them get all frustrated and trip over themselves.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. I am a great fan of the verbal joust, but only if we're talking about actual facts and opinions, and not just made-up bullshit and parroting shit from TV.
