It's like the Pajama Disco, without the Bee Gees.

I picked up at 9-5 shift on the Saturday of a holiday weekend simply because I wanted to work with the peeps who were working today. I know, right? But they are good peeps and I enjoy them. H thinks it's weird that I came to work in my pajamas. It's not though. It's monsterously comfortable.
I saw a butterfly when I was sitting outside on my lunch break. It was awesome, that one that looks like a monarch but isn't. Not being much of an "outside" person (especially in the sunlight-Ew!) I was then chased back into the building by a yellow-jacket the size of a freaking black hawk helicopter. Anyway, I've barely gotten a chance to talk to my peeps because we're so damn busy. I've been trying to post this LJ for the last 3 hours.

Sent a total of 2 Emails to the chick who is handling promotions for the Vampire Ball. If I can get a table, I'm totally going. Not exactly sure what kind of gay apparel I will don, but it'll be groovy. Anyway, I haven't heard back from the chick yet. Hope I do because I'd really love to have a good reason to see Voltaire sell some books. Speaking of Voltaire, [livejournal.com profile] sudrin is bringing me a coveted Voltaire Key from Dragon*Con. I will surely be posting a pic of it nestled snugly in my awesome cleavage for you's.

I'm still not clear on what all the hoo-ha is about in re: Obama talking to the kids. "Stay in school" is not exactly a politcal message even though public schools are the first sign of a socialist nation. ;-] Kids are mandated to pledge allegiance to a flag (and a god) every day; but now the POTUS wants kids to stay in school and people are acting like he's...well, I don't want to say Hitler but some kind of sinister plotter with an agenda to turn kids against their parents or some shit. [livejournal.com profile] davidbain was just saying that if Obama told people to brush their teeth, thousands of people would let theirs rot out of their heads because OMG Teh Socializzm!1!!
Granted, many of these complainy-pants people have no problem subsidizing a war but think giving everyone health care is a travesty; so there's no guarantee of sanity I guess... I've always thought that pulling your kid out of sex ed at school was reactionary, unrealistic and borderline unhealthy for them. This? I have no words, frankly. I hated W, HATED him, but I didn't think he needed to be kept away from children. That's just weird, isn't it?

Viceroy.*

And I'm glad that you enjoy working with crusty little yellow marshmallow chicks. Certainly beats eating them.

*The butterfly, I mean.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! Good one. I despise marshmallow peeps. Gross.

Thanks. I would have googled it, but work was very busy today.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Facebook seems to think I'm more of a Pinko Socialist. Eye of the beholder, I guess.

BTW, have you seen District 9 yet?

[identity profile] vomit-maggots.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I sure have. Fucking brilliant!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Right on!

I thought kissing babies and telling kids to Stay in School and Don't Do Drugs was like THE thing that presidents were supposed to do, outside the white house. And we know the last guy wasn't great at the former...

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! Good one.

I just find it so strange that Americans would tell children not to listen to the president. It's just so weird. Learning to be respectful of those we disagree with really needs to be encouraged.

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see too much trouble with the president talking to kids about doing well in school. From what I've observed, I think the concern is the unpredictability of the current administration. That's why some schools are taking a look at the message before showing kids. That seems like a good compromise.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm just trying to imagine any other time in history when parents would get all crazy about a Presidential Address. As if perhaps the president might say something awful to our kids. Obama is easily the most articulate, thoughtful president we've had in my lifetime. I haven't heard one single complaint about him that wasn't some kind of reactionary bullshit--and believe me, I've been looking.

...unpredictability of the current administration.

I have no idea what you are referring to. Please to 'splain. And this better not be about Hitler.

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
The right never knows what to expect from him. They can't predict him. I think this is part of what makes us nervous.

I think Clinton was more articulate. He was able to go "off prompter" no sweat. And Reagan's background in radio and film gave him the ability to really speak well.

Carter, the Bushes, and Ford were not good on mic.

Whilst using the prompters, Obama has great presense. I think he would have made a great TV news anchor. (That's a compliment coming from me...I don't think I could do news on TV as well as I do on the radio.)

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
You're nervous because you can't predict what a man you've never met before will do? and this somehow translates to being "nervous" about what he might say to children? I still don't understand what it is that people are frightened of.

It just seems like most of the crazy-ass loon shit I hear about Obama is based on a chorus of "Well, he might do it!! You just never know!!!" and I don't want to believe it's about race or ethnicity but I can't think of any other factor. There has never in my memory been another president subjected to this kind of hysterical stupidity.

Oh, and to clarify, I typed above that I wasn't aware of any non-crazy complaints about Obama. That's not actually what I meant, I meant complaints about Obama addressing schoolchildren. Obviously, DADT and DOMA are both fucked.

It's all about race, unfortunately.

[identity profile] lickingtoad.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed it is, but they keep having to invent "something else to call their fear," which is pathetic and silly.

Plus the rage ... the rage is because our country took a nosedive *thanks to the policies and actions of the last guy,* and he's just 'off the hook?!' Eff that. He. should. be. in. prison.

Yep.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I don't think Bush the man is responsible. He's a big, dumb fratboy lackey who was manipulated by punks like Cheney and Bush senior (remember, the guy who funded Saddam Hussein?). Should be answer for that? Probably. But the rampant ignorance in America will never allow that to happen. As Tony Soprano would say "Frankly I'm depressed and ashamed."

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Excuse me, [livejournal.com profile] groovesinorbit It's not about race. Many on the left play the race card, when this man is the head of the Republican party: I am so very very exhausted trying to explain that we dislike the content of Obama's character, not the color of his skin. The party of Lincoln is not judging Obama because he's black.

[personal profile] groovesinorbit 2009-09-06 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, please. That's the best you can do, Michael Steele? A fucking Uncle Tom who had to kiss Rush Limbaugh's sorry ass when he got uppity? Why do you think the Republican party picked him? One reason: because Obama's black.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. And I'm sure the reds choosing Steel to front them and then throwing him to the dogs every time he opens his mouth has nothing to do with race. Making a black guy the face of the party is every bit as manipulative and absurd as nominating a brain-fart like Palin for VP because she happens to have the same parts as someone people already liked.

I am sickened and offended that Americans can't see through that posing and posturing.

Also, you have never met Obama. You have never spoken with him. Ergo, you have no fucking idea of the content of his character. And using an MLK quote to mollify your stance of "They" are "evil" and "dangerous" while "we" are "moral" and "the good guys" is grossly offensive.

Since you brought it up, you'd think the "Party of Lincoln" would be a little less ridiculous about gay people. Arguably, Lincoln was gay himself. And if you do your research, he was not exactly a strong proponent of minorities. The EP was a largely a political move. Not to mention, that there are plenty of red congressmen who are only one generation removed (purportedly, I don't know them) from KKK ties.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I really hope it's not. I'm sure the internet plays a huge factor in that crap, and FOX news certainly isn't helping.

I'm pretty convinced it's a combination of race and the continuing demonization of the Democrats over the last decade or more.

Given that the Rethugs' main line is that we're all white, straight, and Christian (and that their latest strategy is to get out more of the white vote), I really don't doubt it.

Remember what they tried to do to Sotomajor.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. The reds kept saying they were "concerned about her bias" because of her ethnicity and background. Basically that she's going to have a bias toward Latinos because she is one. It's such a bunk argument because what they're really saying is, "she's going to be biased against someone who isn't me." Which, despite their purported love for Michael Steele, is damn racist.

The fact that I spend so much time on the internets makes these people seem a lot louder and crazier than they actually are. I hope.

It's not just the internets, unfortunately. These jerks are getting more of their fair share of airtime on places like NPR (on Morning Editions and All Things Considered, anyway). I mean, when you have senators like Charles Grassley going along with the death panel lie, where does the stupidity end?
