I'm getting new shoes!! Oh, rapturous day!!

Okay, I'm talking about walking shoes here. Not running shoes or cross-trainers. Just walking.
And remember, I'm a fat chick, so keep that in mind when you answer.
Fat girls who're on their feet a lot especially encouraged to give input.

I was wearing Vans for a while, but because it was too flat, it wasn't very helpful. Chucks were okay, but again, unless I put in some gel supports they would leave me unable to walk at the end of the day.

The Asics that I bought fit well (i think they are men's) and usually I was able to walk without pain at the end of the day. But, I also just stood around most of the day, walking, that's a different story all together.

Everything I read tells me I need "motion control" shoes. But those are running shoes, and I won't actually be doing any running in them. So I don't know what to do. If I spend upwards of $60 on a pair of shoes, they have to be great and help with pain in my back and knees.

I got the Asics at Ross for about $20. Since they were for work and were going to get ruined with flour and sauce, I didn't want to dump a lot of money into the shoes. My last work pair were converse (not chucks, though) from target for about $20 that lasted quite a while and were pretty comfortable, too. They just weren't very pretty.

Nice. That's good to know.

I tend to buy cheap shoes (I've tried expensive shoes and they're typically worse for my poor useless feet than cheap ones) and get good liners. Dr Scholl's gel liners with the rigid arch are lovely. I usually wear them out in about three months though, because I just tend to break shoes somehow.

Also, for some terribly counter-intuitive reason, you know those little shoes that look like they fit right to your foot rather than having a flat sole and a regular upper? (erm... like this) They tend to cause me less foot pain than normal shoes. This makes absolutely no sense, so I'm not sure if you've tried them. And I haven't really found any difference between brands or prices as far as comfort goes in this style. Mind you, I use gel liners with arch support...

Also, because of the elastic upper, they fit my wide feet much better than regular shoes ever do. I can never find shoes that fit right.

Oh, and I just linked that pair because it was the first picture I could find. Mine usually run me 20 bucks. it REALLY doesn't matter if you cheap out on these things.

Oh, sweet.

Thanks!

I've been hearing a lot about these Earth Shoes lately. I have not tried them, and I'm hoping to not have to spend as much as $100, but you never know.

I once was looking for a specific shoe because it was cute, and the girl helping me told me it wasn't really designed for women in my "weight class." I was offended at the time, but she was being honest and polite, so I didn't leave the store. She helped me pick out a shoe that fit properly (turned out to be a man's Asics) and I was happy with them for a long time, until they wore out.

I've also just found Earth Shoes, and I only have one pair of sandals, so I don't know about the shoes, but I wore the sandals to the zoo yesterday and pushed a double stroller all day and had no excessive pain in my legs or feet, just a little soreness from being out of shape;)

That's the tricky thing about shoes. Nobody wants to bring up the weight issue, but it's really important. I figure I'll likely end up with men's shoes (which is what I generally wear now except one pair of sandals). I'm going to check out New Balance again, but will almost certainly go with either Nike or Asics even though Asics are almost twice as expensive. I don't want to cheap out, I'm tired of back and leg pain.
