It takes two hands to handle a Whopper. *snerk*

As I mentioned earlier, my left hand kept falling asleep for no reason. After a few weeks, my right hand was doing it also. Then, I almost dropped an empty glass. Did some half assed internet research, which led me to think I was developing carpal tunnel syndrome. The internets were vague and contradictory (go figure, right?) so I went to the doc. Then yesterday, I woke up with the room spinning (shut up, I haven't had a alcoholic drink since the middle of May) so badly I couldn't get out of bed. Yikes, right?

Happily, I got to see the "good doctor" at the clinic. She was very patient and informative even as I asked a whole bunch of questions. She did a few tests and said I do have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. While it can progress to the point where one needs surgery, I don't appear to be nearly that far along. I ordered some wrist braces, and will be taking steps to make some ergonomic adjustments to my work and home computing stations. I'm also going to get one of those finger exercisers they have at my work.
As for the balance issue, she called it "non specific vertigo" which is fancy doctor talk for being dizzy. So I was diagnosed with dizziness. Symptom? Dizziness. Yes, and salt tastes salty. I get it. Anyway, more water and ear candles seems to be the way to go there. Plus there's a tilty exercise I can do.

For some reason, I really need to talk about a FOX "news" story. I was hipped to it by [livejournal.com profile] jeffpalmatier. Apparently "critics" have a problem with a new Burger King ad. I notice that a lot of people seem to have problems with BK ads. Too sexy apparently, because they might potentially make someone think about sex. I have many, many points I'd like to make about this:

1. I find it annoying that FOX doesn't admit that they find the ad offensive. They merely point out that other people find it offensive. But people finding things offensive is not actually news. Nor is there a standardized barometer for offensiveness. It's fairly subjective. So why report it if you don't agree with it? I presume this is because it's often considered judgmental to go around finding offense in absolutely everything. I know a guy who does that and I get so sick of hearing him judge people, as if one is somehow morally superior or more socially aware because they take offense more easily and more often than average.

2. I don't think the ad is overtly sex oriented. But so what if it is? Certainly children are not going to look at that ad and think it's about oral sex. If I had not seen it in this context, I wouldn't have thought of that. And my sense of humor can be totally juvenile. I still giggle whenever spotted dick is mentioned. (If you click on the spotted dick Wiki, be sure to note the story about a hospital menu changing it to "spotted richard" then changing it back.)

3. It's a sandwich. Presumably, she's going to take a bite out of it. That's what you do with sandwiches (usually with less lipstick). Traditionally, that is NOT how one performs oral sex (lipstick ok).

4. Regardless of the intent, this is very much an eye-of-the-beholder situation. The question then becomes: how far should we go to ban or restrict things that might make someone think about sex? While their inventory does seem to be of high quality, I'd rather not be mandated to shop here.

5. Is it morally incorrect to seek to inspire sex feelings about non-sex products? "This is objectionable because it's outrageously exaggerating the pleasure of Burger King. It's not that good, even as food, and therefore nowhere near as gratifying as an orgasm." --Mark Miller Well, I guess he's got me there.

Tonight's dinner shall be pasta salad with veggies and solid white albacore out of a can. My secret? A jar of tamed jalapeno peppers. I also use the english cukes so you can eat the skin even in the off season. Plus, lots and lots of tomatoes and some yellow capsecum. Yum!
