How Scary Are You?

Yeeeee!

You Are Creepy
Serial killers would run away from you in a flash.

I think Chapter 60 is basically done. My plan is to finish the rewrite of the ending this week. Then I have four weeks, which should be enough time to go over the entire manuscript at least four times. So far, I'm kind of scaring the hell out of myself.

Watched Disney's Fantasia over the weekend. Man, I really do enjoy that film despite my general loathing for Disney Corp. I was discussing this on Facebook recently in fact. I had heard a rumor that Disney removed the fat squirrel scene from The Sword in the Stone, which is one of my fave Disney features. My VHS copy of that movie has the fat squirrel, and the version I saw that was downloaded online had it. So I haven't actually confirmed that it's been taken out, I just heard that it was. Anybody know? After watching the footage again, I really found nothing to get offended about.

I wanted to post the infamous "Sunflower" footage for those of you who have never seen it. But it appears that it's only on YouTube once, and is not embedable. So here's the link. This is the entire pastoral symphony, which is almost 10 minutes long. Sunflower, as you may guess as you watch it, is the slave horse who makes the pale horses beautiful, and never gets a partner unlike every other horse. So it's not just two-thingsism.
In the interest of fairness, Disney was not the only company putting out racist cartoons. Looney Tunes has a handful of things they don't show anymore, including the spear-chucking native, the burning mohican, and the "slanty eyed bastards" of WWII. Even Ralph Bakshi, who I love, has done some really offensive shit.

Okay, I'm tired so I'm going to bed even though I'm closing tomorrow and don't have to be in until 4pm.
I know, right? What kind of office work starts at 4pm?!?

R&I watched Fantasia a couple weeks back. It really is an awesome film. Our copy doesn't have the uncut pastoral symphony scene, though. I'd forgotten about that. Ugh.

That's the thing, it's such an incredible display of imagination and talent. But right smack in the middle of it is something incredibly racist and offensive. It's a bummer. Taking the scene out doesn't change the fact that initially, and for over 35 years, the company thought it was just fine.

*nods* Same with Song of the South. Beautifully made, but damned ignorant.

I just scored a copy of that recently, though I haven't watched it. I thought H might be interested, but he's not as into angrying up his blood like I am. ;-]

I think I've only ever seen clips of it. It was unavailable for a long time.

Indeed. They played it on TV in the 70's, and I'm pretty sure my Mom took me to see it at the theatre. But then, it was suddenly gone.
