LOST: here goes nuthin'

Well, my goodness. THAT was an odd and unexpected series of events.
Or...was it?

Let's begin with a revelation I thought of this afternoon, before the show aired. I'd been assuming for a while now that either Richard and Ben are the good guys, OR that Widmore is actually the good guy. But that those were the opposing forces, one good, one evil. As this season progressed, it seemed more and more like Ben and Widmore are actually on the same side. They're just having some kind of mundane, human disagreement that they are playing out in grand style because of all their crazy connections.

Jacob. Leave it to LOST to give us brand new information they'd never even hinted at before during a season finale. That's right, Jacob can leave the island. And he looks like a regular guy, albeit a hunky one. Like Ben and Widmore, he can't be killed. Well, he can but there has to be some kind of special event that creates the opportunity. It appears that Jacob has gotten some of our survivors out of some little jams in life. I mean, what on Earth would Jack have done without that Apollo bar? Seriously though, it seems like he gives people a break if they can agree to straighten up and fly right. Kate, for example, does not seem to have done this.

Locke. Well, he didn't come back from the dead. I guess that makes Ben kind of a prick. More on that later. Whoever this guy is (Jacob's nemesis, I mean) he was able to manipulate Richard. I suspect that such a thing does not happen often. Then again, it appears that everyone who is not Jacob and his nemesis is merely a blip in the overall history of the island. Could the nemesis be Alvar Hanso? Who the hell knows, right? Anyway, this guy orchestrated Locke's death, which means we may never find out what Locke's true purpose is--if indeed there is such a thing.

Rose and Bernard. I adore them. I'm so glad that they are happy and safe. They are my favorite couple on the island. Though Sawyer and Juliet were starting to grow on me.

Juliet. Bummer, but I did predict it before the show.

Sayid. It takes a long time to die from a shot to the stomach. I predict that he'll be fine.

Ben Linus. We all know that he is my favorite non-Hurley character. I've been rooting all along for him to be the good guy. Tonight, and this season in general really, he looks like a small little man with a heaping helping of human frailty, unresolved issues, and a giant chip on his shoulder. What about me? Indeed. Obviously we don't have all the answers yet. Actually, we don't have ANY answers yet. It was the most cliff hangery finale in recent memory. I'm still rooting for Ben Linus to have a larger purpose, but tonight he admitted that he's little more than a liar and an errand boy. I find that to be a great shame. That his weakness was exploited in such a horrible way leads me to my next unsettling point.

This appears to be turning into a biblical allegory. "They are coming" said the guy with all the magic powers. Doe he mean devils? Angels? Aliens? How close is Jacob to Yahweh when you translate it, anyway? Ben had free will and used it to murder someone who didn't favor him enough. Does his jealousy and spite doom mankind? Just the island? If I'm right, the nemesis is The Devil. That's all I got for now, but there will almost certainly be more after I watch again online.

Also, I missed Michael Emerson and Jorge Garcia on The View.
I've never actually watched The View before so I didn't know when it was on.
Think I'll catch a YouTube of it when I get back from my weekend away.

I was thinking this is to turn into God vs. the Devil as well, particularly because of the light hair/dress of Jacob and the dark hair/dress of the nemesis when we first met them last night. Well, that and the free will and the loop-hole thing.

I was frustrated by the cliff-hangery nature of the thing. I'm not very good at waiting for answers, and there are too many yet to be given. Is the nuke the accident? or did they change things? Did everyone at the Swan die because of the nuke? or is there some miraculous LOST thing that lets them survive a nucular blast? I don't want them to end up safe at LAX anymore. That would be anticlimatic.

If Ben really did just kill "God", then can it be fixed? Will they figure it out and kill "the Devil" as well? I kind of want him to have a larger purpose at this point, too. I was just starting to like him. And why no mention of Widmore at all last night?

I was also thrilled to see Rose and Bernard. They are wonderful and wise. Everyone else should have been listening to them more, all along.

I've decided that the loss of Pierre Chang's arm is a huge clue. It seems to mean that they did not really change anything. Miles is probably right in that they caused The Incident with the bomb. They may very well end up back on Flight 815, but that will be far from the end of the story.

Indeed, the fact that they showed us a lot but told us close to nothing is about par for LOST. It was a very frustrating cliff hanger...and only 17 episodes left in the whole damn thing. I guess we shall see...

I love it.

I can't watch the TV anymore. The idiot programmers pretty much make sure of that. And when I watch so little TV, I find that I just don't think of it...

That said, I LOVE your thoughts and descriptions. It's like an amazing burst of surrealism, and it makes me say "That show is totally fucked up! And Awesome!"

It really is a fantastic show. Clever in terms of character and plot, but also inventive in the order in which information is revealed. I'm a fan!

Yay!

It seems like they are making Ben out to be Job. Only Ben did not stick by his God.

I was so glad to see Rose and Bernard also.

Frankly, whoever Jacob's nemesis turns out to be, he played a really dirty trick on Ben. Presumably, the orders from "Alex" came from the nemesis as well. Who isn't going to listen to the ghost of your own dead child (not going into the fact that Ben is not Alex's father)?

As disappointed as I am to learn that Ben is a mortal man with mortal flaws...I really think he got a raw deal. Then again, Widmore also thinks he got a raw deal. I guess there's no pleasing people who live on a beautiful, magical, time traveling island.

One of my co-workers was giving me a theory as well. Egyptian gods (Anubus and another one, one jackal and one hippo) would judge you and either one or the other would take you into heaven or hell as the end result. He and I got pulled away by actual work today, but this made so much sense to me. The island is the determining factor and the other two (one of which is at least one of the statues, maybe there are two) will take you to their particular afterlife.

Of course, this is so close to purgatory which they have denied since the very beginning, that it may not be the case at all.

Yes, Anubis is the god of the underworld. The statue, in my estimation, could be Ra, Anubis, Osiris, or Horus. Obviously which one of them it actually is could change things dramatically.

It would not surprise me to learn that because they are using Egyptian Gods rather than Judeo-Christian ones, that they have side-stepped their own assurance that the island is not purgatory.

Not that I had been constantly need, but sometimes after a heavy day without any pills) But there are ways to increase sexual potency?
