H can hear it just fine, but I can't at all. Alas, I am decrepit. Frown and Fie!

Still working on my story for these guys about the threat of being eaten. I'm writing something I like, but I'm not sure how well it will fit in with what they want. I might try to start something new if I go to Clare next weekend with

absinthofheart and her fam. The scheduling for the trip got kind of messed up so I'm not sure I will attend. I do enjoy having a place to write where there's no TV or internet to distract me. Plus there's nature and a fireplace and stuff.

The onion in the ointment, as it happens, is that my lack of Abilify is making me manic. I tend not to be very good company when I'm having a manic episode, though the writing that comes out of such mania is often quite good. I was completely unmedicated when I wrote Sadie, and that is the best thing I've written thusfar. I've often thought I wouldn't be able to write well with the meds, and I still suspect that perhaps my best work is behind me. I wish I could live on an island and not work so it doesn't matter if I'm crazy or not. Sometimes I feel totally out of touch with my inner nut-job, which for a horror writer is not the best thing. Anyway, being manic is a drag, and I would probably get in trouble if I murdered

nate101000 because of it.

It is also a bummer for work. It's much more difficult to be calm and collected with stupid people, rude people, people I can't understand, children, and people who call my sales line and then ask to put me on hold. Sadly, that is a fair sampling of the people I talk to.

A couple of years ago, someone linked to a high-frequency hearing test. I could hear up to around 12,000 Hz or so. I wasn't sure if the speaker was actually producing the higher pitches, so I tried it on the computer in front of one of my classes full of 18-year-olds. It was fun watching their pained faces as I cranked the stuff between 12,000 and 20,000 Hz.

Yikes! That must have been a riot.

I've been wanting to avoid customers as much as possible lately. I can't handle the same questions over and over right now. *sigh*

Unfortunately, because my cooks are on the ball, they are actually doing the cooking and I'm stuck running the front counter. Of course, this is also a good thing as it means I have a competent staff at the moment.

I've gotten the put me on hold thing before, usually because no one knows what the hell they want to eat. Love it, especially during a friday night dinner rush.

I hear you. Sadly, sales and customer service is all I do. It's just extra, extra challenging when I'm feeling so edgy.

I didn't expect to hear it, but I went to check. The volume wasn't even up to 1/4 strength, and my actual reaction was "Oh JESUS GOD" and scrambling for the close button. And my kidlet (who is three) said, "Ow, that hurt." Yeah, we can hear it. Like someone trying to drill into my brain.

Really?

I couldn't hear it at all...

Oh yeah, really. Like a sonic scream.

H said it was just a mild buzzing noise. Maybe it gets less annoying as you age?

At first I couldn't hear it. But then I realized that my earphones were not plugged in. Then it felt like someone was dragging their fingernails across a blackboard.

Sorry to hear your lack of Abilify is affecting you, but maybe you can get some good writing out of it. And as the old poster used to say, Don't let the turkeys get you down!

Thanks! I do hope to get some good writing out of all this. But in the mean time, it's making work time very difficult.
