Working on a Saturday

I shouldn't complain as I only have to work one Saturday a month, but MAN it's such a drag. It's so slow that people mostly just eat and dick around on the computer all day. I'm wearing a T-shirt to work, since we're allowed to do that on Saturday, and I ate a donut for breakfast because there was a Tim Horton's run. Wow, this post is shaping up to be supremely boring.

I've been reading about how Wal*Mart is warning their people that the company might shut down or something unless McCain is elected. Apparently the Dems want to make it easier to form *gasp* unions, which would wipe out a company like Walmart who profits mainly from running out small busineses and treating their employees like indentured servants. I've had some really shitty jobs in my day, but I've never been locked in a store at night, or denied health benefits. Although I have worked jobs where 24 hours a week is considered full-time.

Speaking of the election, this is another one of those situations where I can't imagine anyone in their right mind voting for The Reds (by which I mean the Republicans). The thought of Obama in office gives me hope, as trite as that sounds. I'd like for America to be more than a war mongering, oil guzzling, american idol watching laughing stock. Like the last two elections, I'm really going to be disappointed in people when they vote for McCain. I wish I could figure a way to be more tolerant, but right now I don't think I can...

So...what are you all doing for your "Staycation" this summer.
I don't know what I'll be doing yet, maybe finding out if there's an age limit at the Youth Hostel in Washington DC. I stayed there once in college, but I don't know if 37 is too old to stay there again. I'd like to pop in and visit my cousin Kathi if I can stand to be on a Greyhound for that long.
Speaking of which, did you hear about the guy who got decapitated by another guy with a hunting knife? It was on a Greyhound, in CANADA. I didn't realize things like that happened in Canada.

if you dont regularly work saturdays (like i usually work sat or sun or both UGH), then they are harder to get thru i think because its so hard to get out of the weekend mentality.

That's true. Working on Saturdays used to be totally normal for me and it was fine, now I feel like it's this huge injustice...

Yeah, apparently 2 men were just sitting next to eachother on the bus, and one started stabbing the hell out of the other one until he took off his whole head. Can you even imagine?

Ohmigoodness, yes! That actually occured in the same place one of my old lj friends lived in. Weird stuff. I couldn't imagine being in that situation, it's the stuff of movies.

And yes, I'll be dissapointed if Obama loses as well. I want to apologize for being from rural Ohio because we're usually the parts of the swing state that eff everything up. I campaign for Obama and I had a woman tell me in the same sentence that Obama was a Muslim and an anti-white Christian. I had another person tell me that change wouldn't be good because at least McCain had values like Bush did. What?

I get pissy when people don't register to vote. Most of the time, they say they dont' want to end up on jury duty. I'm asking people in my ward and since most of them are African-American (not being prejudiced, my town is 25% African-American and 5th ward is 60% African-American), I get a lot of complaints about how biased our courts are against them. That may well be true by some people, but it would be nice if our juries could include members to reflect the population of minorities. But they dcan't do that if people avoid jury duty because no one will be available. I don't get this anti-jury-duty thing. I mean, evenif you were called, you could always fake really biased or something and get out of it, right? i don't get it.

I get out of jury duty because I don't drive. But I still think it's important to vote, for heaven's sake--there are countries where people are literally dying for the right to vote, yet so many of us take it for granted.
You're quite right about the jury duty business, if you want to be represented in the court system, you have to show up.

No offense, but I couldn't imagine living in such a conservative area. I would be getting into fist fights every day...
