Who Turned Out the Lights?

Somebody did, because they are out. In fact, we're going to lose our milk and meats and such in the fridge because our power has been out since 7pm last night. I listened to iTunes on my computer for 2 hours, then the battery died, so I switched to the iPod. I guess I need constant visual or audio input to keep from being bored.

Then we had to order food because there was no way to cook dinner, plus we couldn't open the fridge. Frown! I got some cinnamon thingys from Cottage Inn, which were burnt and terrible tasting. Plus the "dipping sauce" came in packets instead of a dippable plastic cup. Fie and Fie again!

Luckily, we keep tons of candles around the house so we were more than prepared. I would have offered candles to our neighbors but none of them were out and about during the storm. Usually when the power goes out, people leave thier appartments to ask what's happening or to complain. Not this time, people stayed the hell indoors.

Here's hoping it will be back on by the time I get home from work. And notice that even though the traffic light by my work was out, work still had plenty of power. Fie a third time!

Wide swaths of Ann Arbor went out, yes. A lot of circuits on the southern and western sides of the city got hammered. If nothing else, nature is doing our line clearance work. It was bad here too, though as you saw in my entry, we got ours back soon enough - the trouble was fairly minor in comparison to what happened in your direction.

There are still a lot of traffic lights out here, which is scary to me. But our power came back on while I was at work. We're out some milk, but other than that we're cool.

So that's not so bad. I kind of like being reminded how much we rely on electricity and that we can, in fact, get on without it if we have to.

Well, when I worked storm in West Bloomfield and Commerce Township last month, you would imagine they would have died without electricity. The stories I have not yet told on this journal....yikes.

I heard about the power outages in MI on NPR this morning. Some folks aren't supposed to have power on again until Monday! I hope yours comes on sooner. : O

Happily, it was back on when I got home from work yesterday.

I can't imagine being out until Monday, that would suck.
