Blink and summer's halfway over...

Somehow June blew by me like a whooshing breeze. I even forgot to mention my 6-year LJversary, which was on June the 10th. I've been so caught up in life and work and the book that I didn't even mention that this online blog is the longest time I've ever bothered to keep up with a journal. I wrote a few journals when I was younger, but somehow paper journals always seem to end up in the wrong hands and I feel sorry I ever bothered to write my feelings down.

I've been trying to stay away from blogging about hard news lately. It's all so goddamn depressing and I'm convinced that I will grow to hate my countrymen if Obama does not win this next election. But this article about a suspicious soldier "suicide" made me pretty damn angry and shocked so I thought I'd share it with those of you who become similarly enraged about such things. It was so shocking that I doubted it's validity before doing some internet research. Horrible, just fucking horrible.

Finally got around to watching Be Kind, Rewind which was pretty good. Not quite what I expected from Michele Gondry, but I found myself laughing out loud before too long. And Jack Black was less annoying than usual, in that his character was supposed to be annoying, so it worked. Mos Def has really grown on me over the years. He's a pretty good actor, and you know he didn't have any acting lessons or anything.
Speaking of acting without lessons, what the fuck is up with Eddie Murphy? If he really wants to be recognized by the Academy, he should stop making such absolute shit. Have you seen the trailer for his new movie? It looks about on par with Love Guru and that Zohan crapfest.

I believe it's this weekend that my product placement airs on Nightmare SINema. They are doing a sketch about my book in addition to running the ad. I'm getting an extra week of the ad running because last weekend they cut the last 2 seconds off the commercial. Wouldn't normally be a big deal, but it's in the last second that you find out that it's a book.

Still waiting to hear from Borders about the signing, and Barnes & Noble.
Also waiting to hear from Columbia House to find out why their website and customer service both suck so bad. I'm about ready to tell them where they can shove thier 1/2 off DVD's. I was all set to buy Diary of the Dead when they fucked up my account. Lucky me, for I've since heard that the movie in questions sucks really bad. Poor George!

I've been reading about LaVena Johnson. It's one of those things that makes you so angry at being unable to do anything, and then horrifically depressed.

They kept running commercials for that Eddie Murphy craptastic suckfest last night, and he's either got to be hurting for money or desperate for attention, is what I think. Ew!

Yeah, I started reading about her online, and it made me so angry I had to stop and do something else. It's just infuriating!

I just don't get the Eddie Murphy thing. He does have a reasonable amount of talent, but it's like he can't say NO to any part he's offered.

My 7 year LJversary is coming up in October. It's weird, ain't it?

Yes, it is.

That story about LeVena Johnson turned my stomach....that is horrible. It's even worse that the folks at the DOD do nothing to investigate or prevent these things - it is a small wonder that the US lags among "civilized" nations on most human rights measures. This is as good a reason to avoid the military altogether as any, the class (or appalling lack thereof) of people in it for the most part.

It's unfathomable to me that the military would cover up this kind of thing. I'm just disgusted to learn how little they think of the women who serve in Iraq. I just wish there was something I could do about it...something to keep it from happening to another young woman and to bring justice to the guilty.

Grrrr.

I think the DOD is obsessive in its desire to avoid the sorts of scandals which result from such tragedies and injustices. The problem is that I don't even know why they bother - it is apparent to people that this sort of inhumanity goes on within their ranks. Just admit to it, prosecute the offenders, and move on as a more humane entity. It would take a total abandonment of this leadership, however, in favor of people who probably are too clever to volunteer for service.

Just admit to it, prosecute the offenders, and move on as a more humane entity.

Seems like a simple and reasonable solution.
Too bad it will never happen. :-[
