Will sign book for food.

This whole business of trying to secure book signings is a fucking drag. I got turned down by a Mystery book store because my book isn't mysterious enough. Borders is just dicking me around between their website and the store managers who won't help at all. When I finally get a person on the line, they refer me back to the website I just came from. Bastards! I'm not giving up though.

Work busted me down to three days a week without an explanation. We've been pretty slow and it's not the busy time for another month or two. Still though, I do have some small measure of seniority since I've been there almost a year (seriously, turnover is pretty high). I can't really afford to work only three days a week. On the other hand, I'll be glad of the free time to work on book and writing related things. Since a hefty chunk of my flist just got laid off and/or fired, I should be glad of just having a job at all.

BattleStar Galactica was great this past week. We always watch on the following Monday after it airs, because H works on Friday night. I think Tigh will do a terrible job commanding Galactica, his cylon ways not withstanding. Conversely, I think Little Adama will do a swell job as president until Roslin comes back. I do feel bad for all the Sixes that keep dropping dead though. They are so pretty. ;-]

I've taken to reading Wikipedia at work in between calls. We have a lot of down time at my work, and reading the LOST wiki made two whole days go by lightening quick. Yesterday I started reading about Simpson characters. It's good stuff, some of which I've forgotten over the years. Simpsons has been on TV for a long ass time. If it were a person, it'd be old enough to drink, now that's something.

The commercial is going to run for five weeks. They are giving us a pretty good deal, and it is only costing us $400. I may pay for some product placement during a skit as well, as that is just another $100. I really hope this helps.

Well, I finally hot a couple copies ordered for my store. Ingram wasn't offering it through our computer system, so we finally had to add it manually.

Really?

Well, you rock!
Ingram should have had it, with no problems.

[identity profile] boblovesdot.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I think the problem was with the computer interface, not Ingram per se. If the manual entry works, then I'll order a few more for a face out.

Sweet!

I saw it in the computer at Borders, and showed Cathy. It was cool to see it in their system. It made me want to get another copy besides the ones Cathy & I already have. Oh, I loaned mine to Dana, and she liked it. She says she's probably gonna order one of her own.

Nice to know my book will be popular amongst evil people as well. ;-]

Yeah, but they get the antagonist and the protagonist reversed.

"BattleStar Galactica was great this past week."

Have I finally gotten caught up with BSG only to find that I disagree with everybody I know?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2008-06-04 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Could be.

I take it you were not impressed?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2008-06-04 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can see where that's coming from. I have enough faith in the writers though, to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure it will all pay off in a week or so.

[identity profile] swayworn.livejournal.com 2008-06-04 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm not too concerned. It'll have to get a lot worse for me to stop watching at this point!

[identity profile] maxverbosity.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's the busy time for us at work - you should see my "inbox" with things waiting to be looked at, designed, things waiting for permits, right-of-way.....my desk is a disaster, but yet, things get done.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
We don't get busy again until back to school, then it stays busy right thru the holidays. I can't imagine having summer as a busy time. That must be a drag.

[identity profile] maxverbosity.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we have storms to consider too....one good line moves through with enough people knocked out of service and I am on 16-hour days for possibly weeks. Huge paycheck though.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Nice.

My (perhaps others', as well) previous benchmark was M*A*S*H, which made it eleven years. Simpsonses longevity lightens my heart and my soul -- just as I'm a little squicked that Family Guy and American Dad have a loyal audience ...

... ah, well. Shows I hate have been on for decades, too.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to think of a show I don't watch that's been on for decades. 60 Minutes I guess...

Borders treated me like shit. I signed at 3 of their stores. They stuck me in corners, and returned the books I left with them to sell the day after instead of keeping them at least a week.

The best signing I had was at an independent book store that actually sold and traded new and used books. I actually went back for a 2nd signing there the next week.

Skip the big guys for now.

How about doing a signing at a college.. maybe even talk to one of their psych classes. ;P Let them examine your chars.

All the little bookstores around here are niche stores, and they don't like horror books. Even the comic shop turned me down and they sell trade paperbacks. So I'm at a loss.

I'll have to expand my search to the Detroit area.

Thanks!

Erotica is the same... few stores want it.
