Tragically, this sort of thing happens all the time, and it's SO horrible no one will make a film about it or SEE a film about it. It's hard to make this sort of evil "entertaining" even in this age of violence porn.
Do some research on slavery and piracy. 2 things most Americans think are purely "historic". They are in fact happening around the world all the time.
Pedophiles (for example) seek positions of power and have so rigged the system that they go on for years and years in most cases. Andrew Vachss has a lot of details there, and has amped up the "tame" qualities with some noir/pulp to create best-sellers.
I guess someone would watch it - or read a book about it. I only say this because I was thinking of an Oprah-bookclub-style book on the girls' story. Ug, poor things.
I pretty much believe that if somebody can think of something, somebody has done it. So when I watch movies of the "torture porn" variety, like Hostel or Saw, I kind of think people are out there doing these things.
So I am horrified by such news, but not really surprised. And I bet a movie will come of it, eventually.
