Reviews and Reviewing...galleys that is.

I finally had my work review on Friday. As many of you may have suspected, it was nothing to worry about. We did talk about how many mistakes I've been making, and are working on some strategies to help me do better. I did not get written up (not even for being late a few times), nor did my bonus get docked despite some of my mistakes being rather costly ones. So I'm not feeling like a particularly great employee, but I'm thinking that this is a turning point where I can start to do better.

This weekend I managed to finish going over the galley for A Stabbing for Sadie which is coming out totally soon. I haven't written my press releases yet, so I'm way behind there. The galley looks good even though there are some weird quotation marks put there by the editor. There are some segments where it is unclear whether Sadie is thinking, thinking aloud, or talking to someone else. I like the ambiguity of it and think it works well in context. The editor thought she should have more quotation marks, so now she does. I'm not sure if I like that or not, but I left it alone. I must be a real writer if I'm staying up late at night thinking about quotation marks...Anyway, it's nice to see how it will look in print. I also have an ISBN number, a page length, and soon I'll have a price. I'm thinking it'll be around $9.95 which is a fair price for such a wonderful book. ;-]

This book is quite revealing, I kind of forgot how much. The whole semi-autobiographical first novel is kind of a cliche anyway. And a lot of people might end up pissed at me if they (think they) recognize themselves in it. They aren't really in there of course, nobody is just one person. Everyone is a composite character, which I think is cool. In the cat novel, no one is anyone I know in real life. I wonder, would the average person be pissed to recognize themselves in a novel, or only if they are portrayed badly. Like my mom might be pissed, like I give a rat's ass. Actually that's not true, I do give a rat's ass in that I'd like her to read it and be horrified. But I doubt I'll get my wish.

Tonight I'll be playing on the dulcimer until [livejournal.com profile] lickingtoad arrives for the Oscars. Of course I'm thrilled that Jon Stewart is hosting, I will be equally thrilled to see Viggo win a little golden man. He's so damn good in everything he does, it's a long time coming. I haven't seen There Will be Blood or No Country for Old Men, so I'm a bit behind. I think we're finally going to see Sweeney Todd tomorrow since it's at the crappy dollar show. I kind of hate going to that theatre just because it's so shitty looking now and it used to be so nice. But I do want to see the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

We saw Harry Potter 4 there and the place was a total dive.

Heartbreaking. It was the best place ever. Now it's no better than the old Village up by Stadium and Jackson.

heh... my book is semi-autobiographical as well. but I claim it's composite character. Some of my dad, some of your dad, a little bit of Maggie's dad.... :-)

For the first time I can remember, I haven't seen ANY of the movies nominated for ANYTHING. I guess I have not been going to the movies much this year (or I have just been seeing crappy movies).

I thought you guys saw No Country for Old Men. Dan can't shut up about how much he liked it.

I only saw a few of them myself

Dan went to see it with his friend Jarrod. They also saw "Juno".

Two men seeing Juno together sounds kinda gay.
