D'ja hear? I got married!!

The ceremony was lovely and casual and fun, we just sort of winged it having had half a rehearsal and everything written down. We did a candle lighting ceremony, a ribbon fasting, a broom jump, and vows. There was also a reading from the Christian Bible. Everyone said it was a beautiful ceremony, which I guess is what people always say. I was glad to hear it though since I wrote it myself, with some help from a few online sources.

There were about say, 50 people there, all of whom seemed to have a good time. Good food, good music and a wonderful crowd made for a splendid evening for everyone concerned.

There was precious little dancing, which I thought was a drag at first. But there are pictures of what little dancing there was, so it will look like there was more. ;-] There was also a lot of smooching. The flowers that my maid of honor did were beautiful, as evidenced by my fly bouquet. There were also a lot of roses...and plenty of cake left over for people to take home. So that was awesome.
We had to have the ceremony inside because of rain, but it was still very nice.

There will be lots more piccies soon. But these should give you an idea of what it was all like.

H's mom left before the ceremony. She and I talked a bit about the candle ceremony, which I had asked her to participate in. She said it was fine and she was really happy to take part. She also explained that the reason she wanted to know was because she couldn't take part in a "pagan" ceremony. I explained that the candle ceremony was largely secular and represented the joining of two families. I thought everything was cool, we hugged and stuff.

AFter the makeshift rehearsal, I went home to get dressed. When I came back to Cobblestone Farm (where the ceremony was) I was told by H's sister and my MOH that H's mom had to leave. Apparently she read my ceremony and decided it was too pagan for her. I don't even think it was a snotty gesture, I think she really thought her god would damn her if she took part. I didn't talk to her, but I guess she was very upset.

Not only would I have changed the ceremony for her if she'd only told me, but I can't imagine that Jesus would have wanted her to be apart from her only son on his wedding day. I was really upset and confused, and we still haven't talked to her yet. I'm pretty angry that she would do that to H, so I'm nowhere near ready to talk about it.

Anywhoo, all the family is leaving today, and we leave for Chicago tomorrow.
Honeymoon!!! Yaaaaaaaaaay!!!

First off, Congrats! I'll post my pictures later. I thought it was a wonderful wedding! I had a lot of fun. :)

I'm sorry about that "Pagan" nonsense. I thought it was a pretty cool ceremony and I think anyone who was torn up about it was going to find SOMETHING to be tore up about. If it hadn't been that it would have been that the meat wasn't Kosher enough.

I love that H was the one in white. ;-) Have a splendid honeymoon! <3

I can't wait to see the rest of the pictures ~ It looks like you are both very happy and glad that it is over. =)

I'm sorry that his mom was such a ....well pain in the butt. You would think that she would at least want to SEE her only son get married.

Congratulations and I hope you enjoy your honeymoon!

*Much loves*!!!

I thought the ceremony was an excellent mix of traditions, if you will. I pretty much bowed to what my wife wanted when we got married, which was a vaguely Christian service had in a hotel banquet room. In my case, being an atheist, there is nothing to mix with. LOL

Anyway, I had a good time, and again, congratulations. Have fun in Chicago!

Thanks for saying that. I tried really hard to make Grace comfortable at the ceremony, and I was very confused when she decided to leave.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL I didn't even think of that.

Thanks!

I am both very happy and very glad to be able to get back to normal life soon.

Thank you, anonymous stranger!

LOL indeed

We were both really glad that you made it.
I hope you had a fun time!

I was somehow laboring under the notion that your wedding is today rather than yesterday. Anyway, congratulations! I love the pics and the outfits.

Our wedding will be unorthodox enough that I'm slightly concerned about how the 3 or 4 fundies in attendance will respond. I'm guessing they'll just bite their tongues and make the most of it. It's really a shame that H's mother wasn't able to do that for her son's sake.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. And I still don't know what it was about the ceremony that made her feel that she had to leave.

Still though, it was a very good day.

I'm sorry to hear that H's mom chose not to take part :( ...it's too bad that she could have at least stayed for the ceremony to see her son get married...I guess to me, the people getting married matter more than whatever conflict I may have with their religion...then again, I don't believe in some exclusive god...I hope things are worked out whenever you get the chance to communicate with her again, and that this doesn't form some kind of long-term rift or anything...

hope everything goes well in Chicago!...I can't wait to hear about everything you do on your honeymoon...well, as far as hanging around Chicago is concerned, that is :)

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL

Thanks!

Yeah, I was pretty bummed about that whole thing. But I'll be ready to talk to her soon I think.

Congratulations!

You two kids have fun on your honeymoon, but not too much fun. Oh, wait, you're married now. Go ahead and have too much fun!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
hehehehe

I'm sure we will.
