Harry Potter and the $11.75 IMAX ticket

Today I went to see Harry Potter on opening day once again. I saw the last one at the IMAX and it was a good experience, though not a 3-D one like I had today.

I think this was easily the best movie since the first one, maybe even the best of all of them. Yes, there were a few scenes missing that I'd have loved to see. And yeah, I would have liked to have seen more Tonks, Lupin, Moody, and Snape. But there was plenty of Gred and Forge, Neville and Grawpy, Grawpy goodness.

Particularly Awesome scenes include the dementor attack, Dumbledore's grand exit when he eludes the ministry, the final battle was too short--but what we had was A-mazing.

Overall though, I'd say this film belongs to the ladies. Imelda Staunton as Delores Umbridge was incredible. I was taken aback by how much I loved hating her; she is utterly wonderful. Helena Bonham Carter was also brilliantly cast as Bellatrix LeStrange, the cackling, crazy, voldie's gal who kills poor, sexy Sirius and then sings about it in the corridors. Luna Lovegood is pitch perfect, and Professor Trelawny was hilarious. I would have liked to have seen more scenes with Minerva and Delores arguing.

Points of interest:
--The wand battle between the inquisitorial squad and Hagrid/McGonagall is sadly missing.
--Dumbledore and Harry's wrap up speech at the end was too short.
--Dobby is once again missing.
--Marietta Edgecomb is completely missing, as is Hermione's enchantment on the DA list.
--Those Weasley twins are adorable.
--The DA was wicked awesome.
--The Black family tree did not include Narcissa Malfoy.
--Neville kicks ass.
--The Centaurs were very well done, as was Grawp.
--I didn't get to hear the painting of Sirius's mom yelling. ;-[
--No mention is made of Harry wanting to be an Auror.
--The 3D looked great.

That's about all I can think of for now.

Anywhoo, it's damn good and I hope to see it again very soon. See it with the 3D if you can.

The first two were rote Chris Columbus jobs.
The third one was outstanding (but for the lame werewolf FX). Goblet was good, but this was my favorite since #3, and very nearly its rival.

Loved Luna. And given the excellent direction (esp the first scenes. Spooktacular!) I'm thriulled that Yates will be back for Snape's tale.

I concur about Yates, he maintained great pacing that didn't feel too fast despite cramming lots and lots of stuff into less than 2 1/2 hours.

Whew, for a minute there I thought he's be at my base killing my doods. Glad that's not the case.

Very cute!

I would have loved the Mcgonagal/Umbridge argument scene from her classroom review, but what was there for Snape was fantastic. "So, you didn't get the job?"
"Obviously."
The entire theater cracked up.

Maybe more portrait yelling in the next movie? I can only hope.

i think this may be my favorite so far. The dementor scene was great, Mrs. Figg was awesome.

Yes, Rickman did a fine job with what he had. You know me, it could be a Snape movie and I'd go watch it.

This is my fave HP film too.

I have to admit I'm getting less and less interested in the movies as time goes on. There is just SO MUCH in the books that it almost exhausts me trying to remember what's missing and what's there which almost makes it confusing for me to remember what I'm SUPPOSED to remember! Plus, now whever I look at Hermione it makes me think of that SNL skit with Lindsay Lohan. Having said all that, I of course have the last book already preordered on Amazon. ;)

Emma Watson is becoming quite the lovely young lady.

Gee what a surprise. Martin popped by to comment about an underaged girl.

Maybe you're not reading them enough. Are you listening to Jim Dale in the car? That helps.
