David Chase goes "On Notice"

Dear Sopranos,

I watched you from almost the very beginning. You are one of the best shows in the history of television. I just watched your series finale and all I can say is:

?!?

Though the more I think about the final scene, the more I love it...
And I love Agent Harris (and Matt Servitto--he was in Rhinoceros Eyes)

I can only conclude that Tony died. As per the flashback scene where Tony and Bobby are talking about when "it" happens. Bobby said something like "I suppose it all goes black" which is exactly what happened here. The guy in the bathroom is the same guy who shot Sil, methinks. So the last thing Tony saw was Meadow walking toward the table. Then he is killed in front of his family, who may or may not get caught in the line of fire. So if that's right, it's actually very sad.

I think it was awesome. Mostly because it plays against your expectations. YOu are sure they are going to get wacked but somehow Meadow will survive because she is late. But they leave it up to you. Because in the end the show is about family and as far as the family is concerned its just another day. We think they are gangsters but to them, they are just regular people.. If they HAD killed them all, how much better would we actually feel? The "Hey, your TV broke at the important moment" just leaves it all up to you.

I'm torn. I love the drama of leaving it so open like that. But I would also love to see whatever was about to happen.

As for the rest of the ep, Phil's death was awesome. And Agent Harris's transformation was delightful to see.

A site devoted to venting. Mr. Chase is just looking for a box office payday.

Well that didn't take very long.

I must say though, it's his right to kill Tony if he wants to.

I don't think Tony is dead.

Someone on a message board said something along the lines of how, for the rest of his life, he's going to be like we were those last few minutes, looking at everyone and worrying when and who will do him in...I don't know if this makes sense but it does to me.

Also, I loved the ending, one of the best ever.

That's a reasonable conclusion, that he'll just always be waiting for that shoe to drop.

My initial reaction was very WTF, but after thinking about it, I like it very much.

i like your theory.

i wanted to think that tony was all good, that things were fine... you know "don't stop believing" but... i have a feeling your connection with everything "going black" makes more sense.

i hate this overthinking stuff. i feel like i'm in that college t.s. eliot class all over again :)

I wish David Chase would have been more clear, but that's not his nature.
