Who else had silver slippers?

Somebody from some fairy tale sometime has silver slippers but I'm damned if I can remember who. Many of you know a lot more about such things than I do, so maybe you can tell me. Who had the silver slippers?
Not Cinderella
Not Dorothy
Actually, those are the only shoe-intensive stories I know.

Anyway, I ordered my silver wedding slippers from Dance-4-Les on Sunday.
Get that, I ordered them on Sunday and they were here today.
That is some fly service if you ask me, especially since the slippers look great and were less than $25 shipped. Whooooo!

New LOST tonight. Maybe it will be good.
That would be nice.

Also, the Chicken House had excellent food for reasonable prices.
The fish and chips were super tasty, I'd order again if I wasn't so broke, broke.
Plus, I'm a fan of broasting and traditional fish & chips is one of those things I just don't cook. I've no desire to learn the fine art of deep frying, because I'd do it all the time.

In other wedding news, H thinks diamonds are "trite" and shouldn't be in my wedding band.
I told him to Shut up, Flanders because I'm tired of being called vain and materialistic because I want things sometimes. If only he knew how truly vain and materialistic women behaved...
Feh, I don't even have an iPod.

LOL at your iPod statement. And, yes, he should shut up. I have garnets in my bands, but only because I wanted them.

As for silver slippers - Dorothy had them. *nods* In the books, at least. Must've been changed to ruby for the dazzling technicolour effect they'd have on screen *wink*

May I suggest the White Saphire as a compromise? Plus, then you wouldn't have to worry about all that political stuff.

[identity profile] purplecat-a2.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Dorothy had silver slippers in the book and they were changed to ruby in the Movie. Also, diamonds are a girl's best friend. Doesn't H know that?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Really?

I thought Dorothy's slippers were gold, because Wiz of Oz is actually about the gold standard or something like that. Did I dream it?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never heard of a white sapphire!
Amazing.

*goes off to google it*

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd think H would have some idea of how much chicks love diamonds. He's got a bunch of sisters.

He probably wants a ring made of playstation 2 games or something! ;-/

[identity profile] seraphina-prime.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, really :)

Her slippers were silver [for the silver standard] and the Yellow Brick Road stood for the gold standard. The Emerald City - I think - is supposed to be Washington, D.C. but why emerald is beyond me - unless he wanted to refer to the noxious swamp gas that is still found there *impish grin*

[identity profile] seraphina-prime.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggling madly* Depending on the games, that's about the same price for diamonds!

[identity profile] klynnfrost.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, D told me about them. Apparently it's what they use a lot in movies....

[identity profile] leemoyer.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Bravo to you on the subject of silver shoes. :)

"Yellow Bricks" are not gold or bright yellow at all, rather just light yellow/tan (as seen in Return to Oz).

The Emerald City is NOT actually green either (that classic film has rather a lot to answer for...). Rather, visitors are given green glasses so the city appears to be green.
While the green MIGHT be all about the greenback, I don't honestly know.

[identity profile] leemoyer.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You DO know that diamonds are essentially worthless (but for their use in industry) right?

It's only a vicious Imperialist cartel that "keeps" them valued.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL Thanks!

You'll notice from the comments that plenty of people knew this already, I just wasn't among them. ;-]

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahahaha!

Too true.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh.

I had no idea.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-04 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know...and it's not like I want big, honkin' ones.

But--Pretty!!

[identity profile] leemoyer.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
That's what Cubic Zirconia are for. :P

[identity profile] lickingtoad.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
My vote is still for the gemstone-created-by-fusing-the-carbon-in-a-dead-relative's-remains.

Soylent diamonds and you don't want one?

For shame. :D

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
LOL

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
My engagement gem was made in a lab, like Fronkenschtien.

Not quite soylent, but close.*

*Faux Soylent's new ad slogan.

Not a big diamond fan, personally, but I have a few little ones with the rubies in my wedding ring, for sparkle. Have H go price deep red (not pink) natural rubies sometime, then he'll ask you to go for a diamond. ;-)

I like pink and purple sapphires, personally. Only three stones that really stand up to the beating my jewelry takes are diamond, rubies, and sapphires (though they're the same critter as rubies, except for color.) But everything else is too soft for my abuse. ;-)

[identity profile] peteralway.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Gee the people at the wedding I played in October had meteorites in their wedding rings.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'm also looking at sapphires, there are some beautiful sapphire rings out there. Diamonds are just so sparkly and pretty though, and I love the effect of the channel set row of diamonds on the band.

Yeah...we looked at rubies for the engagement ring. They get pretty pricey.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
You...play weddings?

Surely you know that I am looking for someone to play at my wedding in October.
What would you charge for say, an hour of playing?

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
In the book Dorothy had silver slippers.

H should talk to the chicks I work with. Most of them refuse to leave the house without covering their face with makeup. And their engagement and wedding rings cost upwards of $2,500. I praise the creator every day that I have a wife who doesn't wear makeup or want diamonds.

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The green of the emerald city represented the greediness of Washington. The wisdom of the scarecrow represented the wisdom of the common farmer. I can't remember any others but a website I looked up years ago explained it all.

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
And they aren't even that rare. The market for diamonds is managed even more than the petrol market.

[identity profile] peteralway.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I...played...a...wedding. Once. Three ducimer tunes interspersed in the ceremony.

Here are samples of my actual playing--these are not flawless studio recordings ([livejournal.com profile] soundcraft recorded these for me when I visited in October), and are representative of the quality of my live playing:

http://members.aol.com/alwaycomp2/May-Damsels-Live.mp3

http://members.aol.com/alwaycomp2/Simple-Gifts.mp3

If you are interested after hearing those samples (and after your dulcimer lesson) you can decide if you are interested. Right now I have no clue what to charge for a wedding.

Disclaimers:

The weekend of October 26-28 is right out--I'll be at OVFF in Ohio.

I know have a solid 20 minutes of dulcimer music, but I'm not sure what I'd do for a full hour--I hadn't really considered it before.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I was in high school the last time I thought I "needed" to wear makeups every day. *shudder*

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-05 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It wouldn't really be an hour, just half an hour as guests are arriving. It wouldn't even matter if you played the same song twice.

Then I'd just need something to walk down the aisle to...not the wedding march probably, something nice but not too trite.

My wedding is Friday, the 19th of Oct, 2007.

I downloaded the tunes and will listen today when I get home. Thanks!!

Well. They're crazy. They also advocate the removal of all body hair that isn't scalp or eye brows.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2007-04-06 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yikes.

I wonder if they use the epilady.
That thing is like torture.

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2007-04-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's an 'any means necessary' situation.

I've tried to explain that people are supposed to have hair. But no one listens. Of course these people think gastric bypass as a good idea too.
